Napster is the bomb (I know an old word), it is like radio on demand....could you imagine calling your local radio station and telling them to play a certain 20 songs in a row uninterrupted?

I signed up for napster b/c I sit at a computer all day, so the monthly fee is worth it. I am also sick of the fake versions of songs on the kazza & morpheus services.

Another great thing about napster is that it lists groups like the one you are listening to...so yesterday I was listening to etta james and it listed billie holliday as someone I might want to listen to, I love billie and listened for hours!

If you site at a computer a majority of the time, napster is well worth it.

eh, with having some knowledge of mIRC, I find Napster unnecessary. I have almost any CD I want with just a command away.

Napster was dope (by default) back in the day of course. I still have Kazaa Lite to fall back on or Bitorrent to go to. I just don't see it necessary. But I guess if you don't have the knowledge as to how to get aorund the system, it's good to turn to.

But think about it... it's 99 cents a song. You can buy a 16-track CD for $12 at Best Buy. Why pay $16 for it? Unless of course, you only want one or two songs, but eh... I still don't see the value. It could rack you up if you lose track.

IMPAQ, I used mIRC back in college to get all my wares...my point is that my time is better spent getting my music on demand, then finding it all, downloading it and burning it to cds or MP3's.

I just don't have the time to sit down and download all of the stuff. My tastes are so varied that I like being recommended new groups and songs that I would not have otherwise heard, mIRC can't do that, Kazza Lite (which I use now) doesn't do that either.

I am kind of a music explorer, so I love finding new stuff to listen to.

By the way to download an album on napster is 9.99/album. So it is a bit cheaper than buying it in the store.

Oh, okay... didn't know about the 9.99 thing.

Anyways, I hear ya. It's good for one stop shopping. It's convenient for your needs. I, however, am one who would drive across the Tacony-Palmyra to save 10 cents per gallon for gas. lol

I'm joking with that last point, of course.

Didn't get hip to the Old Napster before its death. KaZaa is miraculous. If a CD is great, I'll go to the store and buy it. If it sucks, I just delete it. Pay 99 cents a song? I can legally tape it off the radio, so no, prolly not.

I like the idea of paying for Napster. They have some really great obscure songs from the 70s and 80s that you just cant get anywhere else. It also alleviates my guilt for downloading all those songs in the hey day of Napster and Kaaza - LOL

Actually whether those obsure songs are still there or not is up for research.
A music service is only as good as the people that use it.

My guess as to the best service to use, depends on which service has the highest amount of users. And that would probably be the service that is free.

Companies can try these pay for download services, but there will always be another free service that pops up and that people migrate to.

So far it seems the best choice of music seems to be Kazaa. I hear WinMX alot too. But Kazaa may be going to a pay model of business, and users may probably switch somewhere else. Lets keep everyone posted!

Sure the free one might have a lot of users, but I prefer to avoid the subpoenas and lawsuits that might ensue.

Until I'm convinced it's a crime, I'll be happy to risk the subpoenas.

How is this any different than copying a tape? As long as I'm not selling it, I don't believe there's a problem.
