National Policy 07.1 CLIMATE CHANGE Adopted by Council on November 18, 2007) Emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities are changing the atmosphere in ways that affect the Earth's climate. Greenhouse gases include carbon dioxide as well as methane, nitrous oxide and other gases. They are emitted from fossil fuel combustion and a range of industrial and agricultural processes. The evidence is incontrovertible: Global warming is occurring. If no mitigating actions are taken, significant disruptions in the Earth’s physical and ecological systems, social systems, security and human health are likely to occur. We must reduce emissions of greenhouse gases beginning now. Because the complexity of the climate makes accurate prediction difficult, the APS urges an enhanced effort to understand the effects of human activity on the Earth’s climate, and to provide the technological options for meeting the climate challenge in the near and longer terms. The APS also urges governments, universities, national laboratories and its membership to support policies and actions that will reduce the emission of greenhouse gases.

Chief...Fair enough....but whether it is natural or human induced or both..we're still screwed. I've read things from people I respect that say it's a farce and is being used by governments to create demand destruction deliberately among the masses so the wealthy can consolidate their wealth and power. However, it does seems like "tin hat" speak like so many others always accuse people of engaging in on this PB but when they do it they are to be considered enlightened thinkers.
However, I can't see how massive of doses of carbon spewed out into the atmosphere for the last 100+ years (since the dawn of the oil age and introduction of the combustion engine) has little or NO impact on the climate. To me that just defies reason but I'll continue entertaining points of view like yours without necessarily accepting them. |

Chief, you bristle at being called names based on your beliefs and then turn around and call people with whom you disagree "nutjobs"?

Also, don't you think that these climatologists, who study climate for a living (unlike you and I), should be listened to when it comes to their livelihood? Don't you agree that there is some sort of chance that man is impacting global warming in some way? To their credit, scientists who believe global warming is man-made admit that their theory is not absolute. Even leading proponents of global warming stated that there was a 90% chance the global warming was a man-made effect, admitting a 10% possibility that it is not man-made. That gives them some credibility to me. Does the other side admit such a possibility? If they don't, they would seem less believable to me. Also, if skeptics of global warming were to gather and produce a report-I would read it and consider it-why don't they do so? But common sensically speaking, why is it so hard for people to believe that the vast amounts of pollution our industries create might have an adverse impact on our environment? It just seems so plausible to me. Those who debunk man made global warming seem to be more guided by ideology since they are unwilling to admit the possibility. They just look stubborn and narrow-minded, or proponents of businesses that will be adversely affected by the reforms. |
