Default Burma death toll worse than Tsunami

Amazing......

So how bout that Al Sharpton character?

THE death toll in cyclone-ravaged Burma could hit 500,000 – more than TWICE the total killed by the Boxing Day Tsunami.

The Burma/Myanmar fiasco is making the Katrina fiasco of 2005 look like a puddle of rain.

Quote:
The United Nations projects that as many as 1 million were left homeless; and the World Health Organization "has received reports of malaria outbreaks in the worst-affected area."

Yet in the critical days following this disaster, Myanmar's isolationist regime complicated recovery efforts by delaying the entry of United Nations planes delivering medicine, food, and other supplies into the Southeast Asian nation. Similarly, the junta continues to reject the United States offer to provide much-needed assistance.

The government has failed to permit entry for large-scale international relief efforts, described by the United Nations as "unprecedented".

The Burmese Foreign Ministry stressed its capability in handling the aftermath of the cyclone and insisted that it was not ready to accept large-scale foreign assistance.

I don't see how you can even begin to compare Katrina and Burma.

Katrina's victims were by and large folks who decided against leaving (many in hopes of being the first on hand to loot) and state and local incompetence in evacuating those who couldn't take care of themselves (elderly and hospitalized).
Burma is a case where the ruling junta deliberately refused to warn folks about the cyclone, the people had no way out, and offers of international aid are being refused/disuaded.

One was abject stupidity on the part of the "victims", or those elected into possitions of responsibility. The other is sheer tyrany and malice.
