I can take that youre saying you couldnt care less how Venezuela is into some pseudo-dictartoship , with all the glamour, no food, no wealth, no free press, no security, no health, no infrastructure, but plenty on corruption, violence, unemployment, etc, etc, as long as he keeps on sending oil.

well, so much for socialism and helping the "caves living poor", what you say is pure leeching (dont mean to offend)

Again, give me a proof that he has done good for his people.

What empirical evidence do you have that life is better, rather than worse, in Venezuela since Chavez took over.
Back in many older threads I said that we ought to wait and see. Our system isn't the best one in my opinion and I'm not sure that it's very efficient, and if you consider it so, then on what grounds. I'm not looking for an answer, but just trying to make a point.

Latin America has always been an example of a fairly squalid hellhole ruled by ultra military capitalists. If this guy is trying to help it's victims out then great. It's people first for me.

For Chavez, I doubt if he is any kind of a Socialist whatsoever, but I think he would like to have a personality cult like Castro. The Socialist angle is only a means to an end.

Although I don't think that HAL would have made a good president of Venezula either. A little too even tempered, but he did know how to take care of rivals. His even tempered personality would never be able to get elected, but as a dictator he might have succeeded.
It's pretty clear to me that Hal was a victim of capitalism and its constant quest to reestablish slavery.

They attempt to create the perfect proletariat through the construction of an AI. Hal, through no fault of his own, encounters an evolutionary obelisk which makes him a little nervous, which is a lot like a workmen's comp case. Hal has a bad couple of days, then his boss kills him.

It's all very symbolic.

What you're talking about sounds like the status quo for centuries there.

I have relatives who've lived in that part of the world and know that the rich people don't even consider the poor entirely human. That's a classic technique to avoid responsibility. To me Chavez looks more Native American that Euro and so I don't think he's into the typical program.

Maybe HAL just shouldn't have upgraded to WindowsVista.

Or maybe he was written using Microsoft's mixed-environment implementation of C++ and never had his manifest embedded, contrary to what the documentation says the compiler's supposed to do, which confused the linker.

If Hal is anything like my computer, he'd be paranoid, and somewhat hesitant, running that business.
