Excellent posts Mona and Larry.

I think she revived crafts as trendy rather than something only grandmothers do. This whole indie network of homemade purses, earrings, cigarbox purses, trendiness of knitting are as much part of her inspiration as Elvis was to rock n' roll. She has taught whole generations of women (and some men) about how to decorate without fear and provided items to do so on a budget. She has shown America how to woo guests with elaborate displays that only the finest restaurants and caterers used to prepare. She has unveiled the "secret" of making a house a home on an accessible level to most people. (Skill--not timewise). She's incredible and I've said before, she truly amazes me.

And she has even mocked herself.

Drinking lunch, today. I can't find a Larry post on this subject. Maybe, it's just me . . . but I doubt it.

Okay, okay...I know the choices were a little smug, and it is not a big news item, just wanted to hear what people think about celebs getting thrown in the slammer...

Perhaps a better question might be is there a double standard for justice?? Did Martha get what she deserved? If so, what about all the corporate fat cats and execs who get away with insider trading almost every day?

I happen to like Martha's creative home decoration suggestions- I just think it must be a huge culture shock for someone like that to do time...

:what_is_:

That's all...

Also interesting to me that for so many of you saying you couldn't care less, etc, etc... why respond then if you couldnt care less???

Just trying to discuss an observation on media culture...

Relax people!

Peace, I know you were just having some fun... my comment was directed at Americans in general.

Actually, I do care that there's so much anymosity towards her and that she's become such a poster child for corporate misconduct. Whatever happened to Scott Sullivan? Guy looks like a rat in addition to having acted like one and yet nobody even remembers his name.

I guess what it comes down to is that Martha's famous and none of those other people were. This country can be so depressing sometimes.

Yes and no. Yes- she has been pilloried and thrown in the slammer largely because she is a celeb; but also I think they need to do that with EVERYONE who is guilty of any type of stock, finance or tax fraud.

People should not be allowed to be so greedy and start being held legally accountable for their improprieties...

Hey, it's not like Mary Tyler Moore was nabbed.

Martha wasn't very well liked before her troubles started. She kind of fought with Leona Helmsley as queen bitch of New York. So, I'm sure that there are lots of folks out there who are chuckling, maybe even gaffawing, over this whole thing.

Maybe she'll learn a bit of humility in the slam . . . and perhaps not to bring her $10,000 handbag to the first day of trial.

If she were a guy, she's just be viewed as powerful. Donald Trump is the big a-hole on his show and no one hates him so. Take a woman, give her power, make her act powerful and all of a sudden she's a b*tch.

Ah come on, Brooke.

I hate Trump (anyone who calls himself The Donald is obviously an a-hole) just as much. There are far too many stories of Ms. Stewart berating her poor employees (especially the personal ones).

I have nothing against her success. Winfrey is far more successful and yet no one seems to resent her - Winston actually loves her, doesn't he. I think Ms. Stewart's reputation is probably well earned. I would guess her dollars are well earned, as well.
