You know quite well that I have been critical of Islam. It's an ideology. It's words in books. It isn't limited to a particular racial or ethnic group, as much as you and some others love to try to parse the world up into racial and ethnic issues. I would support an intelligent program of monitoring or profiling the activities of Muslims, regardless of race. If mosques in this country were running their own large scale campaign to teach followers exactly why terror is wrong and how not to "misinterpret" Koran and Ahadith, evil bigots like me would trust them. |

Good catch. I somehow glossed over that ridiculousness when I first saw it. What is it with people on these boards inventing personal experiences so that they can make a point? Obviously the poster didn't see said lines. What possible goal could it serve to invent something like that?

Yeah great catch. I traveled to Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, and Israel, a few years backs and, as such, I actually sat in a crowded secondary screening area watching who was getting pulled for further screening. There were lots of Arab looking folks with me and I talked to quite a few that had traveled to non suspect destinations in Europe. Not only were more Arab looking folks pulled in for screening, but the ones that were pulled were also treated rudely and questioned much more extensively than non-Arab looking people.

Unless you are going around and visiting Mosques around the country to learn what is being taught, this based upon nothing more than pure conjecture. Statements like this expose your bigotry and the bigotry of people who think like you. Seand's venn diagram might be useful here. Think concentric circles-- Muslims, moderate Moderate Muslims, and Terrosists who are Muslim.

The guy responsible for the Bali bombing escapes scrutiny (unless you happen to catch him at a Mosque--which, regardless of that you think is the official policy, is being watched) and all Middle Eastern looking people (who might not even be Muslim) get subjected to all sorts of scrutiny. Brilliant.

And you haven't addressed my assertion that "Baptists from Kansas" that get called for secondary screening aren't treated rudely or questioned with the same vigor as men named Muhamed. By the way, during the four or so hours that I spent in secondary screening, I saw very few "Baptists from Kansas" ... In fact, looking at luggage tags, it seemed as though the baptists were pulled more because of where they had traveled and less because of their race.

You know, there are lots of people who travel with forged documents. Immigrants of all races who are trying to enter the country illegally, wanted felons, drug smugglers. It's kind of a leap to say that those with Arabic sounding names are more likely to be traveling on bad documents. In fact, it's pure speculation meant to confirm you biases.
