What if a guy needed surgery for a degenerative back condition, but he had MS 13 tatoos all over him? Should he be sent to the back of the line?
(Of course this assumes we're in the U.K. or had their nationalized medicine.)

Tann: It's not going to be applied everywhere.

You cannot refuse a smoker who is going into labor.

You cannot refuse a smoker who needs an appendectomy.

You cannot refuse a smoker who needs emergency angioplasty post-arrest.

You cannot refuse a smoker who has had blunt-force trauma, etc.

This could reduce outpatient care costs, but there's a lot of inpatient treatment that you can't run this policy over.

I think it's more a question of critical care vs. elected care.

Personally, I just don't like the Gov. making those kind of decisions. If a privately owned hospital wants to make that decision, good for them. They could decide not to preform elected surgeries on left handed people for all I care.

But in a situation where the Gov. controlls all the hospitals, it's a different story.

Is it just to do that? What if it was applied to homosexuals or people who were overweight, or ate meat?
Should I be denied surgery because I got toasted, went to Tiki Bob's, picked these chicks up, and boned them raw deal?

[quote=TheAdlerian;502053]You got me with that one!

I was trying to figure out the logic, without much success until I clicked the link.

Anyway, it does make sense because the stimulants in cigarettes constrict blood vessels. They bring blood to wounds which makes them heal, so a choked off supply of blood is going to make for slow healing, which opens a person to infection and other problems. So, the smoking patient is actually being rude to the doctor and working against him, while asking for help, by smoking.

It makes sense to me.

You and the doctors are just jealous. You all know smoking is what the cool people do.

Doctors could start doing the same thing for guys who workout and take l-arganine supplements as a vasodialator [or a derivative, often in mass doses].

So there's lots of guys out there who look completely healthy, and they'll have to sit it out to get elective surgery, too.

Invade? The colonies were British subjects, so technically the Revolution was an insurrection. That's not the same as as an invasion. It's like saying: "The British INVADED Sussex!!!"

Sussex is an English county. How can one invade itself?

The appropriate terms for war and response in the American Revolution would be:
  • rebellion
  • boarding
  • repulse
  • advance
  • withdraw
  • seize
Now if the HMS Invincible turned up in the Delaware river today and started lobbying shells at Center City... that would be considered an invasion... from those dithy, filthy British bastards!

We could argue about when the U.S. became the U.S., who recognized U.S. independence when, the War of 1812, etc. But the simple fact is the British did invade the U.S. It's a well known fact.
