Do you give him extra protection? I'd think you'd have to. But then that defeats the purpose of sending him over there in the first place.
And this isn't a typical war situation. There are people involved in this mess who are only interested in making this the biggest, sloppiest mess that they can make this. Kidnapping and beheading a prince could be right up their alley.

He'll be with the Royal Army, WHY would he need extra protection?
Well, okay, so he's a prince. What the heck are princes for these days in the UK? They're figureheads, with no political power, and if the war effort needs a boost, how better than to let the young trouble-making prince join the fray? Looks good on his resume ... he's 'changing his ways', becoming a mature young royal, gets him out of the discos, etc. This is what princes DO! They party, or go to war. Particularly the non-crown princes.
Of course it is a gamble ... if somehow he were kidnapped it would be a big fiasco. But who knows what the powers behind the throne really want? Maybe it would be a GOOD thing for their agenda? Maybe it's already planned?
It probably IS worth the extra security. SAS are already on the payroll, you just need to deploy a few of these maniacs in his general vicinity. It will be VERY CALM and PEACEFUL wherever Harry's unit goes.
I think it's great that he's stepping up.
