That doesn't change the fact that it was Bush's call to get rid of him. now. He did not volunteer this time. BTW this thread should most defiantely be located in The Nation

I read on tmz that Rummy resigned via text message. Bush was visibly upset and left his table at Butter to cry and smoke cigarettes in his Escalade.

Anyway, at least the guy is out of there... although it is still up to W to try and do something with the mess that he has made Iraq into... I just watched the documentary Baghdad ER again, and it choked me up and made me angry as heck at the same time that we are sending our troops to the slaughter over there because of a series of collosal lies and bogus reasons for invading and basically creating the worst civil war middle east has seen in decades- with no end to the conflict, or withdrawal of U.S. forces in sight most likely for years.

I'm glad he's outta there. I wish he would take his friend Dick with him!
And I think this all means that Cheney's influence may at last be waning and we may not longer have a shadow president. I'm more excited about the replacement. He's the president of my alma mater, Dr. Robert Gates. He's done a wonderful job at Texas A&M and the Aggies will miss him but I think he'll do a good job at the Pentagon. Check this out on Gates: http://www.slate.com/id/2153287 The Analyst ComethWhy Robert Gates is the best man for Rummy's job. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...n/4320401.html Gates' departure stuns Texas A&M community http://www.defensenews.com/story.php...3937&C=america Gates Is Reassuring Choice To Lead Pentagon, Insiders Say Robert M.
