Malloy:
To carry on your question from the other thread . . . this thing has received wall to wall coverage.

Most maudlin has been the stupid local news people with their upload trucks sitting on the front lawn of the poor family and making Johnson sound as if he were the second coming of Jesus.

chris...see post above...tons of media coverage does not = sainthood...look at the media coverage of Kobe! I don't know where you are hearing anyone other than his friends and family saying that he was a good man. The media is covering it and calling him innocent, not a saint.

Wil:
I disagree. I have seen reports on what a good man he was, how he loved his family, enjoyed Saudi Arabia.

He hadn't seen most of his family for many years, especially the family in New Jersey.

He lived with his asian wife (non-arab) in an American enclave. He got a very large salary working on Apache helicoptors - perhaps the most hated symbol of America in the Arab world (Apache gunship).

Look I'm not saying that he should have been killed. And he should not have been killed in the manner that he was (although, I recently read a long piece on the fact that beheading is not nearly as unthinkable a method of death in the Arab world - and that the standard way of exercising the death penalty in Saudi Arabia is by beheading).

It's kind of like all those folks saying "oh, he was a good boy" about the kid who just shot his neighbor's son. I don't intend to be mean.

Bottom line, however, is that there have been lots of really dedicated, good folks (who are working as teachers, doctors, nurses, relief workers, etc) who have been killed over there . . . and we don't hear a blessed thing.

Wow, finally something I can agree with you about. The world is coming to an end.

I do feel sorry for the family. First of all for their loss. Second, because they have to deal with loads of stupid press people and trucks that are camped on the front lawn.

Why can't the media stay away until they are ready to make a statement. What good does it do to have a truck with an upload unit and a reporter doing standups on the front lawn.

If there has to be someone there, then why just not all use a network feed rather than all of the locals from the East Coast having their own trucks and reporters there.

The other problem is that once there is a reporter there, they feel they have to find a story anyway to justify their existence . . . and they go around bothering others. I actually saw pictures of a wedding and then the reporter was questioning whether the wedding should have gone on as planned.

Geesh. The guy hasn't lived there in years. Most people who live down there probably have no idea who he is . . . nor did they care until a week ago.
