Default Moving to Philly - Employment Search Links

Hi everyone,

So great to see this site, what a fantastic resource!

I am moving to Philly at the beginning of September, Fishtown to be exact, and I will need to start the job hunt immediately. Just wanted to see if people have any recoemmendations about how to go about looking? I plan to hit the classifieds of the paper of course, but do you have recommended links of sites that list jobs available in Philly?

I am moving from Austin, TX and most of my work focus has been in the area of graphic design, both web and print based work, printmaking (art studio, silkscreen prints), and I have a lot of administrative assistant experience. I would love to find a job related to the arts, be it in production, desktop publishing, design, print, or even administrative work or non-profot work related to the arts. My plan is to take a position wherever I can when I first move up while I seek out ideal or more desirable employment, that is if I don't already love the first job I find. I am highly personable and hard-working, so I am optimisitc that I will find employment fairly quickly, but I would like to get an idea of the job outlook up there and any available resource to assistant me in my search.

thanks so much!

Effie, try jobcircle.com and http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Phillyjobs/

These may be a good start.

There is also a local group called PANMA (Philadelphia Area New Media Association) you may want to join their list and post something about yourself there. The list has many graphic design types on it.

Then theres dsn-x.com, which has a message board where a lot of local designers hang out.

Good luck with the search!

I just left an industry that may suit you well. The company is Sparks Exhibits, but I'm not sure if they are hiring. Go to www.sparksonline.com to see if there are any oportunities. The HR Mgr. is great. Her name is Michele Neiley. Send me a resume and I'll send it around to my friends and business contacts. My e-mail is steveg@faircreditmortgage.com. Jennifer & Wil, anything in your cirles?

You should also check out the Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance: http://www.philaculture.org/

They have a job bank that lists lots of stuff, mostly with cultural and artistic institutions and nonprofits. Presumably there would be numerous jobs for people with graphic design-type skills.

I have always liked Philly when I have visited, and I have never really lived in a city. I have a lot of friends up there which is making to move easier, so yeah, I just want the change and Philly seems like it has what I want. A lot of art and music related activities happening that I am interested in, still affordable to live there, close to NYC. i am really excited about venturing into the city!
