Default Consider Volunteering at MANNA

MANNA urgently needs drivers, but they are also always looking for many different types of volunteers. Here is some information on the delivery drivers - for more info, see their website at MANNA.

MANNA drivers provide both nutritional and emotional support for the individuals and families that they serve. Drivers have direct contact with the people who receive MANNA meals.
• Deliveries take place Monday through Friday between 11:00 a.m.and 3:00 p.m.
• A delivery route typically takes between 1 and 2 hours and begins at MANNA.
• Assignments are available throughout Philadelphia and Camden County, as well as Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware Counties.
• If at all possible, MANNA will custom-fit assignments to each volunteer's schedule and preference of neighborhood.
• Typical assignments take about 1 1/2 hours, once a week, and can even be done on an extended lunch break.
• Volunteers do need to have a valid driver’s license and provide insurance for their own vehicles.

MANNA reminds all driving volunteers to maintain the confidentiality of clients by not wearing any MANNA clothing or hats while doing deliveries. In addition, no MANNA bumper stickers, flyers, etc. can be displayed on delivery vehicles. Click here for more information on client confidentiality.

MANNA delivers meals to individuals with HIV/AIDS:

OVERVIEW
A small professional staff and 1,000 dedicated volunteers bring over 40,000 nutritious, home-cooked, home-delivered meals each month to individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS. MANNA provides nutritional and emotional nourishment free of charge.

Clients on MANNA’s hot meal program receive a daily delivery of 3 meals (breakfast, lunch, and a hot entrée), Monday through Friday. Clients on the frozen meal program receive 5 different entrées and accompaniments including breakfast cereal, fresh fruit, milk, etc. Frozen deliveries are made once a week.

MANNA nutritionists and chefs oversee the care and preparation that goes into every meal. Volunteers personally deliver these meals and bring companionship into the homes of men, women and children living with HIV / AIDS.

MANNA is dedicated to providing high-quality, fresh food that is visually appealing. Menu items range from comfort foods such as macaroni & cheese to sophisticated dishes such as teriyaki salmon with ginger.

MANNA clients are also lovingly presented with birthday cakes on their birthdays, cupcakes on Valentine’s Day, and a bountiful dinner for four on Thanksgiving and Christmas.

MANNA provides direct nutritional support and promotes wellness through nutritional counseling and education at MANNA, in client homes, and in over 23 clinics of the Delaware Valley.

MANNA currently serves the Pennsylvania counties of Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia; the New Jersey counties of Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Mercer and Salem; Delaware’s New Castle County.

The professionalism of MANNA’s facilities, staff and volunteers directly translates into the improved quality of life for the clients MANNA serves.

I work on a very part time basis for MANNA. This has to do with client confidentiality and not wanting to let neighbors or other folks know that someone has HIV/AIDS. I volunteered with MANNA for years before ever working for them (and still do) -- it's a wonderful, caring, sensitive organization and volunteering with them in any capacity is very fulfilling (and occasionally incredibly fattening!! <G>) I can also recommend their catering division which helps fund MANNA's programs... yummy.

Wow -- you resurrected a pretty old thread. Thanks for volunteering! Next time you are in, stop in and say hi. I'm there full-time now as their Director of Development... and still loving every minute.

I'm sure you know, but lots of folks don't know that MANNA expanded its mission and now serves anyone acute nutritional risk from a life-threating illness such as cancer, renal failure, uncontrolled diabetes and, of course, HIV/AIDS. Check out our new website at www.mannapa.org.

Thanks again!

Ann

I had the opportunity to work with MANNA back when it was just getting started many many moons ago when I worked for a small AIDS service organization in the late 1980's - early 1990's. What a great group. My sister worked for them for a few years a while back. It's great to see them still going strong.
