Default Career Wardrobe Volunteer Opportunity

Announcing a new, exciting way you can help The Career Wardrobe.

Each year, The Career Wardrobe receives donations of over $700,000 worth of gently used clothing. Because we are outfitting our clients to make their best possible first impression, both at their interviews and during their first days on the job, our volunteers and staff are very selective about the clothing that we keep.

We are looking for volunteers to help us turn this surplus inventory into revenue that will be used to support and expand our program activities.

3-4 volunteers are needed to assist with our consignment initiative by managing one consignment shop relationship (shop of their choice) for The Career Wardrobe.

Volunteers will be asked to:
  • a. Assist with shop selection and facilitate the negotiation of consignment contract.

    b. Make monthly deliveries of new inventory to the shop and manage an inventory list for the sale period.

    c. Manage the wardrobe’s relationship with the shop: establish a relationship with the management, understanding what sells best, deciding on pricing strategy (if appropriate), ensuring payment is forwarded to The Career Wardrobe at the end of the sale period.
The Career wardrobe has already identified several consignment shops to partner with, but welcomes additional suggestions from volunteers. All consignment contracts will be approved by the Wardrobe’s Executive Director in consultation with volunteers.

If this opportunity is of interest to you and you would like to learn more, please join us for an informal gathering on:

Tuesday, January 7, 2003 from 6 to 8pm
At the home of Board Member and Volunteer Committee Chairperson,
Erica Spizzirri - Jenkintown Road, Glenside, PA.
(Directions available when you RSVP)

Please RSVP by Tuesday, December 31st via phone or e-mail:
scole@careerwardrobe.org or 215-568-6693

Likewise, how about women's suits? (For all those nice Knot's Landing padded shoulder suits).

There's a homeless shelter at 12th & Race, St. John's Hospice, that I recently donated to, but there are of course plenty of other agenies that take clothes donations.

Sorry, St. John's is men only. The Donna Mills look wouldn't go over too well there. There's a non-profit called Women's Way that operates in Philly and would probably be glad to take your old Abby Fairgate couture.

Keep in mind that you can write off clothing donations as a tax deduction!

If I remember correctly, you can donate and write off up to $200 of donated items per year without receipt. Of course clothes are written off at about 1/3 to 1/4 of the new purchase price.
