Default Philly-Area Charities

I have never volunteered my time during the Christmas holiday, and I think it is about time to start. If you know of any Philly-area charities looking volunteers for christmas, I would appreciate your letting me know.

Thanks,

Nick

Why not look on the Volunteer Match site and see if anything appeals to you?

Greater Philadelphia Cares does a lot of different activities.
I don't know about anything specific as far as Christmas volunteer activities though.

In general, GPC is a conduit for volunteers for smaller nonprofits that need people to plant trees, read to children, etc.

In my experience, the exception is PhilaCares Day (I think it's Oct 21 this year) when volunteers are recruited from everywhere around the region to clean up many of the public schools in the district. I'm a regular volunteer and site captain for this particular event.

Salvation Army always needs volunteers around the holidays to help serve dinners. I did it around Thanksgiving and had a lot of fun.

Nick1234,
First, I'm so glad to hear that you want to volunteer and give back to the community - thank you for having the heart!!

But I want to urge you, and any one else who wants to volunteer around Christmas time -- that's when everyone gets in the giving spirit. And then it leaves most non-profits and charities with the rest of the year to fend for themselves. Please, consider volunteering at various points around the year. Your time will mean so much more when these organizations are not getting the help that they need.

In any case, though, thanks so much for wanting to give your time, Nick!
