#21 shows you where the dorm will be: the corner of 33rd and Chestnut

Thanks. Yes that confirms that the new dorm will infact eat up a portion of Hill Field. They are slowly taking over the green space with buildings. Hopefully it won't all disappear. I just wish they would develop the parking lot space before taking away green space.

Default wrong

That corresponds to the surface lot in front of the structured garage, NOT Hill Field!

They will be tripling the amount of green space with the Postal purchase...and will be shifitng the center of campus a bit to the right and a bit to the north with the various construction projects.

With the Science Center multi-million expansion and whatever Drexels doing to their "campus" there at 33rd and Chestnut..it will really bring some life to that kinda dead area arounf 34th/Market/33rd/Chestnut...

Hill Field is underutilized and it's only real uses are for ultimate frisbee and graduation.

I'd hate to see it go but they need more housing.

Thatt being said I remember the promise that they "will never build on Hill Field" then came the path...then the fake old building...now this..

Still I look forward to a time where there's as much action at 34th and Chestnut as 34th and Walnut and it will be a real connection to Drexel and Center City.

I think people are really underestimating what Penn's going to do for Center City....

Done Right...Center City may start to feel all the way out to 40th..

It will consist of three buildings oriented along the field's edge.

The plans indicate that the new dormitory will take up about 20 percent of the current area of Hill Field.

Zur I agree with pretty much everything you are saying but my point is I would like to see them develop the parking lots just across the street 1st. Maybe they have a plan for them already. I don't know.

I think you will get a lot of students renting but I also think there will be a market for people that work in CC being that it is so close to the EL station at 34th and Market. Its a very convenient trip into the city from that location.

Now if only the parking lots along market street would be developed such as at 38th and Market. Talk about a waste of land.
Transit-oriented-development, quite obviously. El stops at 34th and 40th along Market. One block south on Chestnut, condos at 34th and 40th.

I know it's not what you'd like to hear but parking's a very big concern for Penn. They have about 27,000 employees and not enough parking.

Before I hear the "they should take Septa"...many people live outside the acceptable or realistic areas that they could take Septa. I know I do...it averaged me about 1.5 hours a day each way on Septa and about 40 by car. It's about a break even...parking passes are about $1500-$1700 and a transpass is about the same a year (without wear and tear on the car and gas) but the time I save and the aggravation I avoid it totally worth it.

(note...the way Septa's set up I'm a zone 3 rail and I live in the city)

Penn makes a bunch off those lots...I would think they would be around for a while or at least until they build new garages somewhere.

This is Philly and not someplace else. Septa sucks and can't be relied on the farther out you get. Center City's about the only neighborhood that you don't have to worry.

Center City's only 9% of the population...the other neighborhoods don't have this luck. Ask someone from K of P, Malvern, the Northeast or South Jersey if they can count on transit. They normally can't and have tried and failed.

This all goes back to how important Septa is...and how IT NEEDS TO DIE!!!
