From www.livejournal.com/community/west_philly or www.livejournal.com/community/philadelphia, I believe there were links to Inquirer articles detailing abuse of the animals. Unless I'm thinking of the wrong pet store. This is the one that was near the Fresh Grocer, right?

No you are talking about the TradeWinds Pets on 40th St. between Market and Chestnut. UC Pets does not even sell live animals at all - only pet supplies. If anything UC Pets veers in the opposite direction - i.e. very PC about the stuff they stock. We like clumping cat litter (that often has clay as a major component) and Catharine was extremely hesitant to stock it because she had read it increases urinary tract infections. Our kities have used it their whole life and neer had any such infections. She finally did start carrying it.

You are talking about a totally different store, tozurk. The old UC Pets location is in the middle of the block on the 4200 block of Baltimore, down the street from Royal Pizza. I believe that other pet store recently shut down because Penn is redeveloping that block of 40th.

I am, yeah. See my above post.

I'm glad to know there's a pet friendly store around here.

I think it's good that small businesses are making a go of it along Baltimore Avenue! Do they have a website?

Default store hours & stuff

UC Pets hours Tuesday - Friday 12 - 8, Saturday 10 - 8, closed Sunday & Monday.

Free delivery w/ no minimum order.

DO NOT RENT OUR OLD SPACE!! We had sewer water floods more than once. The owner of the building felt that any work on the problem beyond cleaning it up was "preventive measures" and not necessary. He also thought cleaning it up 2 weeks after it happened was a reasonable time frame.

Thanks to everyone for their well wishes and support. - Katherine, owner UC Pets
