Rents vary a lot--I know someone who got a beautiful 1-bedroom apt with separate dining room and living rooms on the 4800 block of Windsor for $550. On the other hand, some places price studios more than that. Depends a bit on whether you're looking at apartments directed at students or not and whether you've got the time to check out a few, some weekend.

Not sure when I'm moving yet. I haven't started the job yet and I need to see exactly what I get out of each pay (after taxes and such) so I can see exactly what I can afford.

Okay good. I just moved from OK to Philly about 2 months ago and I didn't even get to see my place before I moved. I totally lucked out. I got an apartment in an old victorian. All rehabbed and it's pretty big for the price and I never ever ever have a problem with parking.
Craigslist and Phillyblog saved my behind. If it wasn't for these people, I would have ended up someplace awful....
I LOVE UCity. At times, I wish it was closer to CC, but the trolley is right at my doorstep. Good luck with your hunt!!!
