Default Being Assaulted and harrassed by your neighbor?

I live in u-city and I have been harrassed by my neighbor. She backed in to my car 3 times, park in the rear of my home I get tickets, bit me caused bleeding and the police at 18th district 55th pine says "go file a private criminal complaint instead of arresting the suspect for assault? Why??? maybe because she attended and worked with night court?
My car has been keyed, tire slashed, etc... What tops it off is the person doing this is a 30 year veteran school teacher.
I live on the 49 hundred block of pine street.
What would you do?

Well, what you need is to catch he in the act and/or get some evidence. I suggest you invest in some security cameras or security web cameras and see if you can "catch her".

My question is -- what did you do to her that brought out this behavior?

Thanks Five - I kept wondering the same thing. I can't imagine that all this stuff goes on in a vacuum.

CVJ - I would guess the best thing is to get some evidence (as Prof. Dave says). Also, I would go down and sit with the police - not just the guy at the front desk but the Sgt. and/or the Community Rep. I'd also check with local community organization to see if others have had the same troubles. I don't expect that they will get involved in individual battles but I guess each group is different (we wouldn't get in between feuding neighbors in Old City).

Good luck. Check your lease to see when you can get out.

Probably something unreasonable like asking her to shovel her sidewalk, not let her dog off-leash, clean-up her yard, stop being noisy, etc, etc.

Don't "fight fire with fire" thats totally stupid and leads to things like a few years ago where that guy in South Philly shot his neighbor over snow shovelling. I'm pretty sure the bad neighbor in question is one of those misguided souls who thinks they "own" the spot in front of their home. Its not that impossible to find another spot around the corner.

I have to say I am with five. I feel like you aren't being completely straight with us. How did things escalate to this point? You know the woman who owns UCPets lives either on that block or the 5000 block with her boyfriend and she always talks about is how quiet and friendly that block is. Last year she got a black eye playing softball and she jokingly complained about it was all she could do to stop many of her older neighbors from jumping to the wrong conclusion and pulling her boyfirend aside to "have a talk with him".

If the neighbor is a problem in other ways you are in the area covered by the Garden Court neighborhood group. Consider going to their crime and safety committee meetings. Did you excahnge words before the keying, etc.? What exactly happened?

I have an equally heinous neighbor (though hasn't actually caused damage to my property) so while I have nothing to offer in help, I'll be watching this thread with interest.

Sometimes your neighbors are just nuts. Sometimes they don't like everyone and have wayyy too much free time on their hands to further their hate of everyone.

how the heck did she bite you? that's outrageous.

Pennsylvania is kinda weird in that misdemeanor crimes can be rather serious offenses with punishments upto 5 years incarceration (most other states the limit is 1 or 2 years) - and in Philadelphia, these crimes are heard in Municiple Court.

you should go down and file a private criminal complaint and/or get a restraining order - it's not going to necessarily protect you from a future attack - but at least it will be on record and give the authorities something to "enforce".

check out the DA's website with the addresses of the various offices...
