There were various reports of a near-riot at the school at 36th and Filbert streets last Friday. Teachers and students said some students set small fires in trash cans, tossed large trash cans from the 3rd floor to the 2nd floor, and knocked over huge potted plants.

A few days back there was an article about Vallas ordering an emergency replacement of the principal at UCity High. Not usually a good sign.

The same principal had also made the news a few months back for allegedly selling parking spots on the UCity High campus to Penn and Drexel employees for profit a few months back. Different people in the office had conflicting sotries about the parking spots. The principal said they never sold parking spots but someone else in the office said they did but that it was for a special college scholarhsip fund. The funniest thing was that someone had given the reporter a copy of photocopied note that had been placed on cars windows indicating that the yearly "rent" for parking spots had gone up and the notes strangely had the schools phone number on them. Around the same time there were complaints from some area neighborhood groups that had used the gymn at UCity High for holding meetings, including I believe the Belmont neighbors association. Previously they had gotten the use of the gym for free. Suddenly now they were being asked to contribute to a somewhat mystierious scholarship fund.

I think any changes coming in the near future to UCity High are probably for the better.
