Ok the dirt (sort of) on Goodfellas is that when they first opened they were basically just a lunch and dinner place. They were really slow and were really struggling to make it. At that time, their next door neighbor was the Comet Cafe (where the Paris Cafe is now) on 42nd. Goodfellas and the paris Cafe have the same landlord. Someone anonymously kept calling complaints to the landlord that the pierced, pit bull owning portion of the Comet's cleintel was "scaring away" the Penn kids from Goodfellas. Sick of the hassle, Wendy and Alexi found the site that has been under construction ever since in Powelton Village and moved out. Goodfellas still floundered. Then over a year later they got a liquor license and suddenly - go figure- the place is consistently chock full of Penn kids.
But you didn't hear such a scurrilous rumor from me.
