Default 2008 Powelton Home & Garden Tour

Hi folks, just wanted to spread the word about the 2008 Powelton Village Home & Garden Tour coming up on May 31st. We have a great ensemble of homes, all very different. If you're thinking about moving to University City, this is a great way to learn about the neighborhood and also get a feel for what its like to live in these old houses. Or if you're just a stickler for Victorian Architecture, this is the tour you'll want to attend.

Feel free to PM me with questions!

Bump...

Advanced tickets can be purchased through Thursday May 29th at 5:00 PM by calling 215-925-6101 (x6021). Otherwise you can pay at the registration desk on the day of the tour. See postcard in the previous post for more details.

You'll get to see the homes of two Phillyblog members... We hope you can make it!

How many houses will be shown? Can you name some of the more outstanding houses on the tour? Inquiring minds want to know.

I can't give too much away, but the flyer above includes images of actual houses that will be on the tour. We've got a total of 13 homes, and the Church of St. Andrew & St. Monica will also be opening its doors.

Some of the homes are definitely over-the-top, much more so than the images above indicate. We've also got a neat carriage house that has been converted into a luxurious loft.

Y'all will just have to come out on the 31st to see the rest!

Bumpity, bump, bump, bump...

The tour is now up to 14 homes, plus the church (with Tiffany stained glass). Only three are repeats from the last tour two years ago and one of those has a brand new kitchen!

We hope you can come out this Saturday May 31st from 12PM to 4PM! See the postcard up thread for ticket information.

Default Too costly

I would love to go on this house tour, but I can not. Why? Because of the $25 price tag. Money is tight, I'm having trouble paying my bills, gas prices are astronomical, can't afford to eat out anymore, unless it is the dollar menu at McDonald's.

When I lived in Plainfield, New Jersey, we had a house tour in one of the historic residential districts ... the fee was something like $8. If Powellton was charging $8, $10, or even $12 I would go. But not for $25.

You say but this includes 13 ... no, 14! ... houses. But who is going to visit all 14? Most people will pick out 5 or 6, maybe 7 houses to tour. It's a lot of shlepping to do.

Point taken, although I would tend to disagree with a few points. All the houses on the tour are within 5 blocks of one another, making the tour very walkable. And, to top it off, at $25, we are the cheapest house tour in town!

I'm sorry you feel that way, Phillybud. We actually did set the price lower than it was two years ago. We are also offering a discount to students with a valid student ID.
