Default Clark Park area....

Hi....I'm checking out apartments all over...anyone know about Clark Park? Is this a safe part of UCity? Particularly the area around Farragut? Is it convenient to Penn and public transport? Are there a lot of shops, pharamacies, grocery stores, and eateries nearby? What's been your experience? Thanks.

I used to live in one of those old victorian houses across the street from
Clark Park.

Down the street is that Green Line Cafe place.
Sometimes there are alot of girls in there so that's why its good.

In the summer, all the hippies have that farmers market thing.
That's good cause if you like fruits and vegetables.
I don't eat that stuff, so I did'nt really give a rats ass about that.

The trolley is right there, so you can catch it into the city if you wanna go hang out.

It's not all that safe a place at night. But it's cool during the day.

Basically, I wouldn't hang out or chill in the area, but it's ok for a jump off point to do other things.

Not to disagree with mr Rad, but Clark Park is a great place to live as well as hang out in. I live off of the 1000 block of Farragut, and aside form taking the trolley into work, I find that I rarely need/want to leave the area. Aside from the above mentioned Green line, there are a bunch of great places to eat, hangout and shop at (book store, pharmacy, ethnic restaurants, barber, bars, grocery, etc). It's a very walkable neighborhood with great architecute, and quiet tree-lined streets.

As far as it not being safe to walk around at night, I would have to disagree with Rad on that as well. The area is well light and patroled by UCD ambasadors. I've been living in the neighborhood for three years and have not had a problem being out at night.

Dude honestly, she's probaly a girl from like the suburbs somewhere,
it's not a good idea to go telling her that it's safe to go walking around
west philly at night.

Wherever you live, it's smart to be cautious about walking around alone at night. I don't feel any less safe walking around this neighborhood than I do in most other places that I visit in Philly. I would also second Hazel's comments about the neighborhood. The area around Clark Park has a good variety of restaurants, coffee shops, and food stores. With two trolleys in the neighborhood, it's also really easy to get downtown.

I've had more friends mugged/bothered by crackheads in center city than in west philly. Walking around in the clark park area of west philly at night is no more dangerous than doing the same in parts of center city...

I absolutely agree with you. Center City isn't all that safe either.

And neither is West Philly.

Default wasting time.....

...arguing fine points of urban living with someone who thinks like this:
"Sometimes there are alot of girls in there so that's why its good.
In the summer, all the hippies have that farmers market thing.
That's good cause if you like fruits and vegetables.
I don't eat that stuff, so I did'nt really give a rats ass about that."

The Clark Park area is pretty safe. It isn't exactly the typical West Philly neighborhood. It's close to shops restaurants, transit, etc, again not like much of West Philly. Walking around by yourself late at night is probably not the best idea anywhere, including the Clark Park area.
