Default good eats

Hello all -- I just moved to the neighborhood, and I need some good food advice. More specifically, I'd love to know where to go when I don't feel like cooking -- pizza and chinese food, that sort of thing. Of course, any other jems you might want to pass along would be greatly appreciated.

Here's a good site...for lots of stuff

http://www.ucityphila.org/

Specifically

http://www.ucityphila.org/cityguide/restaurants.php

Lists all local restaurants.

I'm more familiar with the "campus" side of West Philly..

But on of my favorite deli's is Koch's

http://www.bridgeandtunnelclub.com/b...ochs/index.htm

New Deck Tavern

http://www.phillytown.com/newdecktavern.htm

White Dog

http://www.whitedog.com/

Rx

http://caferx.com/

There's a number of "carts" on Campus that serve some pretty good food. (9-3pm)

40th Street has a number of places..

Just keep asking ...the U City people will be able to produce lots more.

Default Ucity eats

we usually get pizza and sandwiches from Colonial Pizza 387-7702 on the corner of 43rd and Pine. Also, Varsity Pizza located next to the affore mentioned Kich's on 43rd and Locust Sts. I don't call there as often so I don't have the number engrained in my mind.

There are a number of great food places in the area. Abbraccio on 47th and Warrington just off of Baltimore is very good as well. Marigold is another nicer restaurant at 45th and larchwood.

Bon Apetite!

Within a block of 47th and Baltimore -- Lee's Deli which is at the corner of 47th and Baltimore, their Chicken Cheesesteak with Brocolli has to be THE GREATEST chicken cheesesteak ever. Vientienne - Laotian or Thai - really good. Dahlak - Ethopian. Abbraccio - formerly the Paladium on Locust Walk - Italian. Fu Wah apparently has the best Tofu hoagie.

A couple others Fiesta Pizza 45XX blk of Baltimore. Also on that block Gojo. Blue Nile, Pier 1 Cafe.

45XX blk of Springfield -- Genuine Bread and Specialty Shop - every day has a meal and a sandwich for $5. Incredible stuff.

A few others around Marigold -- 45th and Larchwood -- supposedly a little expensive but very good Craig LaBan likes them for whatever that is worth. Rx at 45th and Locust - superb.

James Grill near 52nd and Baltimore - good fish. Saad -Halal restaurant - 45th and Walnut. Mill Creek Tavern - 42nd and Chester. Koch's Deli -- 43XX blk of Locust - argueably the best sandwiches in the city.

Yes - I stand corrected. At the corner of 45th and Locust is Abbysinia another Ethopian place. A few others Sam's place on 45th near Pine has the best bagels. Calabasse at 45th and Baltimore is good also. Best House at 43rd and Baltimore - good food and they sell six packs. Across the street is the Green Line - one of the coolest little coffee houses in the city. I think they also have sandwiches and snacks. But the link Zur provided from the University City District has basically everything.

I like Best House for pizza, sandwiches, and other pizzeria fare, and also for sixes and singles of a wide and ever-changing selection of both typical beers and microbrews. Green Line Cafe is a good, very chill coffee shop that draws a steady crowd of students and neighborhood folks. Cafe Pier 1 is small and pleasant, and feels a little more international, with African art on the walls and great hummus, baba ganouj, and portobello sandwiches that come with a side salad of fancy greens (though sometimes she is out of some of these items), good teas and coffees and some excellent pastries from local bakers. Also Pam, the proprietor, is super nice, and I hear she's working on a small renovation including an internet-connected computer. Finally, Lucky's on your block is decent Chinese food, not the best but close and open late.
