Does anyone know of any yoga classes in West Philly other than Joan White, Power Yoga and the Univ Arts League? I'm looking for a weeknight class that is preferably hatha yoga or a non-hot yoga...

I actually did some research on this not too long ago because I too was looking for a yoga place to go to.
You can go on citysearch.com to find a bunch or whatnot. It really depends on how much you're willing to pay, how far you want to go, and especially what type of yoga you're interested in. I'm interested in mostly Ashtanga yoga so the places I found focus a lot on it. I'll post my top interested choices anyhow, just in case you're interested. 1. Philly Power Yoga on 20th & Walnut - $10/per class ( I personally think I'll go here.. it's a combo of Ashtanga power yoga and Bikram hot room yoga) 2. The Yoga Loft on 16th & Walnut - $15/per class (Was highly considering this place... definately a nice environment and good instructors.. I think they also have more mediation and basic yoga classes) 3. Dhyana Yoga on 17th and Chestnut - $15/per class (This one is also has some really good instructors. I think they also have more meditative yoga) But definately check out citysearch and what not, I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for online. Hopefully this info helps! ![]()

Hi I'm new to all this, so please have patience. I am looking to find a place for yoga. I am a beginner, and heard it is very rewarding as well as refreshing mentally. Which yoga should I begin?

Hi Moon. I actually teach yoga sometimes over at the Mantis Boxing School, on 45th and Baltimore. It's a beginner's class, usually going from one hour to an hour, fifteen. I try not not be too rigid on time, to allow for some flexibility. I teach various breath exercises and short meditations. The suggested donation is $10.00. I have some mats for rental, blocks and straps. Mantis is a local martial arts studio that teaches to adults and kids. I love the space. It's not too hard or too soft. It's just big, quiet and empty with few swords on the wall and a punching bag. I usually hold the class on Sundays, but due to the cost of the space, I like to pre-register
so I know how may people to expect, before reserving. If you want any more information, just email me. I'll be happy to answser any questions. Also, there is a free class on the corner of 11th and Pine Str., in the Louis Kahn Park, organized by the owner of the store, Spirit of The Arts. He likes using new teachers, like me to keep things interesting. It's every Saturday, (9am to 10am, if the weather holds. |

Try Balance studios! It's right over the walnut st. bridge from west philly/upenn/drexel area between 23rd and 24 st. (it's about 20 feet north of Sansom street down a smaller street, I can't remember the name of it).
Anyway, the Ashtanga yoga classes are awesome! There is a Tuesday class at 7pm, a Thursday class at 6pm (I believe) and a 10 am class on saturday mornings. Balance is also a Gracie jiujitsu school with terrific classes and really friendly students and staff. Both programs are led by Phil Migliarese. You can find more information on www.balancestudios.net Hope that helps! |
