That was exactly what I did when I got mugged at 46th and pine last summer. They were stupid enough to not take my cell phone which I used to call the cops and after hours of sitting around at police station, then finally being asked some touch questions and giving really crappy descriptions (I really suck at describing what people look like), the perps were caught two nights later mugging someone else in the exact same spot! One has been shipped off to a juvenile facility and the other is still awaiting trial after having his hearing a few months ago. Luckily, this robbery was unarmed and more of a strong-arm type of robbery and was fortunate to only escape with a couple scrapes and bruises where I got hit.

I'm still hoping for a calmer summer unlike last summer where so many people I know, including myself, were mugged.

Any idea what was going on this morning on 40th that had the police shut down Pine and Baltimore between 39th and 41st? Traffic was a clusterfark.

No one knows?

I was walking on Baltimore between 41st and 39th around 9:30am just as something was going down. There was a SWAT team, and a dozen cops were putting up tape around what looked like a stopped trolley, but then again there was tape everywhere. They were pretty aggressive and yellow “No civilians!” and cleared the area without me getting a good look at what happened.

It was almost a month ago now. Said acquantaince was me... And yes, I filed a police report, but the robber who held the gun covered his face with a handkerchief or scarf so I don't think it helped much.

Anyone know what happened last night at around 11:15pm?

About 12 cop cars came flying down south on 49th street. I stepped outside a few moments later and I saw about three more coming down and saw a helicopter which appeared to be in the vicinity of 45th-48th/Woodland Avenue.

Default From the UC listserv

This was a verified posting. It's really horrible to that this is happening so violently:

I was assaulted and mugged last week at 47th & Osage by three teenage
girls. They cracked me on the back of the head, punched me around a
little, dragged me on the sidewalk to get my bag off my shoulder, then
pepper sprayed me. I made the police report, & reported my cell phone and
credit card and **** stolen. 2 days later these girls called through the
#'s in my cell phone (from a private #) and told everyone who answered to
relay the message that they were going to kill me and burn my house down.

They even left some voicemails (smart). Since they have my driver's
license, they know where I live. They then put the phone on my front
porch. Yes, I have updated the police and the detective who I initially
reported to that this crap is going on. THe police have called me
regarding some pictures they want to show me of 2 girls perfectly matching
the descriptions I gave. They picked these girls up on 48th & Pine (2
blocks from my house). Still, the police have not come to show me the
pictures, and I now my phone messages to the police are not being
returned.

I have lived in this neighborhood since 1999. I am female, 27 years old,
and I look very young. I do not, to my knowledge, look "rich". I have
never felt unsafe in this neighborhood. Last year I was mugged at gunpoint
but even after that I wasn't too freaked out (those muggers just showed us their guns, asked for the bags, and left quietly---perfect gentlemen
compared to these little fuc&*rs).

I do not subscribe to any kind of U.C. conspiracy theories or anything, I
just wanted to state what happened to me last week.

Default is this suspicious?

at about 7:30pm someone rang the bell at my apt on kingsessing (a twin w/ 3 apartments). when i opened the door, there was a teenage kid standing there. he immediately said, 'i got the wrong house'. i stepped onto the porch to see is anyone else was there and he repeated, 'i definitely got the wrong house....i don't know what else to say.'

he left the porch and slowly walked east on the sidewalk, looking at the next houses - both at the doors and up at the 2nd floor windows.
i went back into my apartment and watched him walking to the west, at some point motioning to someone i couldn't see. he disappeared over the hill between 48th and 49th.

does this seem sketchy to anyone?
is he checking to see if anyone is at home? is he checking to see if there is anything on the porch (ringing the bell to make being on porch look legit)? does anyone else have strangers ringing the bell then walking off when the door is opened?

Default Attempted mugging near 45th and Baltimore

A group of kids tried to mug someone between 9 and 9:30 tonight around 45th and Baltimore. I had just happen to step out of Bindlestiff around that time when the person who almost got mugged happened to be standing outside. He told me they followed him three blocks on 45th street. He realized he was being followed and crossed the street. Upon getting to Baltimore, the kids went another direction and he had called the police. They then reappeared from Melville, but simply proceeded over to the gas station and back down 45th (both the guy and I were standing around near lots of other people). Two cop cars shortly followed down 45th, but I don't know what happened after that as I left after that.

The kids we saw were all wearing either white or striped shirts and long baggy jean shorts.

Can we just say the kids were acting very suspicious and call it even. I would usually reserve the term "attempted mugging" for times when they actually say something to the person like for example "Hey you, give me your money". All they did according to your story is walk around the block in a vaguely menacing way.

Regardless it will be nice to have the kids go back to school. In the dog days of summer the kids run out of stuff to do and start cruising surrounding neighborhoods for trouble to get into.
