Since buying my house last January I couldn't believe how lucky I was to have landed such a great house on such a great block, this week was the first time I ever doubted my purchase.

Default Gunshots at 50th and Pentridge

Last night three or four shots were fired near 50th and Pentridge apparently by a dude with some kind of submachine gun (which is scary). The police responded quickly and there were no signs of anybody getting hit, but it definitely freaked everybody out who lives near there.

Default 41st and Walnut

There was a heavy city and penn police presence at 41 and Walnut last night around 8pm. It looked like a crime scene, but the power was also out for about 4 blocks on Walnut. Anyone know what was going on?

It was around 11:15 or so. The shots sounded like fireworks, but the police sirens were on for a minute.

They found some shell casings on Pentridge, right near 50th. I think they picked someone up, because they were asking around to see if anyone could ID the shooter.

Default burglary attempt

just wanted to post a heads up . . . .somebody tried to break into my apt on the 500 block of s. 49th street this morning around 9 am.

the burglar was trying to get into a window but woke up my roommate, who went to the window. the person then ran away. all my roommate saw was a white hand.

Default Who can I call about this?

There is a developmentally disabled AA kid named Daniel who looks to be about 18-years-old that wanders/bikes around the neighborhood (between 49th and Baltimore and 53rd and Catherine) by himself. Two nights ago I opened my inside front door to find him staring back at me through the outer one. He was taking a picture of my front door/house numbers with a camera phone. When I asked him to leave he said, "can I come over?" And I told him no and said he shouldn't be on my porch uninvited. When I asked him again to go back down the steps to the street he yelled, "BUT I LOVE YOU!" I said, "I know Daniel, but you have to leave." And I went inside and shut the door. I sent my 6'5" boyfriend out just to make his presence known but by then Daniel was long gone.

My first interaction with him was last year when he happened to pull up to my yard when I was outside gardening. He hopped through my yard and came at me to hug me, then he wouldn't let go of my arm. I realize complaining about someone hugging me must sound cruel but he's generally grabbing his junk while he's talking to me so I feel it's warranted.

Is anyone familiar with Daniel or know who his parents/guardians are, or know where he lives? If not, I'm not calling the cops on the kid because I doubt they would be sensitive enough to him but I don't really know what agency to call either.

I believe I had an interaction with him the other day... my husband and I were walking out of the new liquor store on Baltimore and he was standing infront of the door. I didn't see him and almost knocked him over when I opened it to leave the store. He wanted to know our names, so we told him and he kept shaking our hands and then followed us down the road asking where we lived. Then he started touching the sleeves of my t-shirt and pushing them up to expose my shoulder... it was weird. My husband told him to knock it off and he eventually stopped following us.
I couldn't really tell if he was actually mentally disabled or if he was just trying to make us think he was.... It sounds like you've had more encounters with him, so you would know. It's definitely unsettling, but hopefully he's harmless.
