I live at 48th and Regent and call the Police every time I hear minibike action on the fields at Kingssessing and the School at 51st
I don't blame them for wanting to ride but the fields are often in use by other kids or practice squads so yeah, not entirely safe |

i teach 9th grade boys at a new charter school in west philly. we've had some issues with neighborhood kids jumping our students... but yesterday afternoon-- at TWELVE THIRTY, in broad daylight-- two of my students were held up at gun point at 52nd and market. they had little money on them, but gave it away and are ok, just shaken.
it's a scary world out there. i just can't believe this happened in the middle of the day. just passing along the info... |

I just posted this on another post but I figured I would put this here also.
I tell people about this service all the time but it doesn't look like that many people use it. The University City District Safety Ambassadors (the guys in the yellow jackets on bikes and on foot) will escort ANY MEMBER of the University City Community home, to work ect. You do NOT have to be a student or connected to Penn or any of the other Universities. Here is their link, ect. http://www.ucityphila.org/ucd_programs/public_safety Crime and Safety Tips: http://www.ucityphila.org/ucd_progra...nd-safety-tips UCD's 42 Ambassadors provide a secure, welcoming presence for University City's residents, workers, students, and visitors. Uniformed in green and gold, the Ambassadors are unarmed officers equipped with two-way radios who patrol the streets of University City on foot and on bicycles every day from 10 am to 3 am. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to crime, provide directions and pedestrian assistance, and can call for help in emergency situations. Each Ambassador undergoes training in public safety and crime prevention, emergency first aid and CPR, interpersonal relations and customer service, city services, and University City and Philadelphia history, attractions, and services. Ambassadors also track public hazards such as potholes, problem street signs, blocked sewers, and broken fire hydrants. These lists are regularly forwarded to the city for corrective action. Ambassador Services Many Ambassador services are offered jointly with Penn's Department of Public Safety. For more information, visit their website. www.publicsafety.upenn.edu UC Walk As an extension of Penn's safety escort service, the UCD Public Safety Program has brought UC Walk to all members of the University City community. Those needing someone to walk them to transportation, a meeting, or home can call 215 898 WALK (9255), and an Ambassador will be dispatched. The service operates 24 hours a day.

Two things -
1) Gun shots near 46th and Sansom Saturday night. Any info? 2) I live on the 4500 block of Sansom and on Thursday (17th) a woman knocked on our door saying she was from some committee (I can't remember the name) and asking if we would like a tree planted on our street. We appreciated the sentiment and offer, but we already have a tree directly in front of our house. We then chatted with her for a few minutes about the neighborhood. After she left, my wife and I thought it was a little strange that she didn't seem to notice we already had a tree, and that she seemed so interested in the cost of our house and the others in the neighboorhood. Can anyone confirm that she was probably a legit do-gooder, or do we have reason to suspect she was fishing for info? Anyone else in the area talk to her or someone else from her group? |

Was that on Friday night? Because on Friday night I was standing on a porch at 47th & Warrington from about 12am to 1am, and there were about 5 police cars just quietly circling around and around for a while, with their lights off. Guess they were looking for someone. I didn't hear of anything happening, though.
