Thanks Fuzz. I haven't seen any new broken car windows on our block for a week.

Other things going on...the 18th district did a great job the other night. They rode through a shooting at 53rd and Larchwood and gave chase to a vehicle that sped off. Officers caught up with the males a short time later and arrested them. Results: 2 kilos of coke and 2 stolen handguns. Shooting victim lived. Today, 34th and Haverford Ave, male shot. Area has been a hot spot over the last few months. Scary part is that a lot of the shooting there has been happening in the day time. The other half of the squad is nightwork this week so I will check tomorrow and let you know what is going on. Robberies in the 18th are down significantly the past 2 weeks. Burglaries are up. The good news is that we have suspects thanks to the kids getting caught in a PBers stolen car. Just working now to get everyone's belongings back. I should be sending the email out tonight... |

Last night at around 6:45pm there were a couple of police cars & an ambulance on the 4400 block of Osage. My neighbors and I went outside to find out what was going on. We were able to piece together some details:
- A woman was walking from the trolley (on Baltimore?) and was assaulted by 3 "kids." - The attackers knocked the woman to the ground and took her bag - The attackers were caught near Clark Park - The woman suffered damage to her face & teeth but will make a full recovery Can anyone confirm, correct or update these points? Fuzz, do you know anything about this? |

I'm not exactly sure what I'm shooting for here - just venting maybe. I'm a dog owner, so I rack up a fair amount of time on foot in the 18th district (F sector I'm told). Lately I've been struck by the dramatic increase in the amount of broken car windows I see (or the remains thereof on the ground). My car was broken into about 6 months ago. Police came on the scene right as I discovered my broken window and essentially assured me that there was no point in filing a report, and that the best option for me would be to just repair it out of pocket. My girlfriend's car was broken into about four months ago. Each time nothing was taken (in the latter case they overlooked a coin purse with a couple of bucks in dimes and quarters), and we don't own fancy cars (15yo Honda, 12yo Toyota) but each time it's a $90-$100 trip to get the window replaced.
Last night my girlfriend's car had the window broken AGAIN - nothing taken, another window to be fixed. We leave NOTHING in our cars, and leave the glove compartment open to show that it's empty... so what the hell can be done about this?!? Are we expected to accept that we'll have a replace a window several times a year? I reckon I see maybe 5-6 newly broken car windows a day, which is a huge underestimate of the amount of damage being done throughout the district (it's not like I walk every street) - that amounts to ~$100x6x30 or $18,000 a month. At some point shouldn't this be taken as something more than a nuisance? Since it's happening so regularly it seems like catching at least some of the perpetrators shouldn't be much of a strain on manpower... Help me, TheFuzz, you're my only hope (or something like that). |

I came acrost this seconds after it happened while riding my bike against traffic on 44th st. saw the group of kids come running eastward first and thought it was just kids playing. I then looked up the block and saw a woman on her bike attend to the victim and a guy on a cell phone at the intersection call it in. I biked around the area to search for them but couldn't find the kids |
