I've actually been pretty disappointed. There is definitely a need for another grocery store in West Philly and folks are flocking to Supremo, but the prices aren't that great. Plus, I am irked by the "bag search" policy as well. I'm worried that this new store is going to be more about ripping people off (considering you're paying average to above average prices and having your bags searched as you come in) than saving people money or providing quality merchandise. But we'll see -- hopefully the sales will start once its novelty wears off and people demand better.

Yeah, I'm a bit odd when it comes to grocery shopping. I actually go out to Downingtown to fill my pantry at Wegman's (and more importantly to get a beer at Victory) every two months or so and the Italian Market, the produce truck on 44th, and the big asian groceries on Washington for the rest of my stuff. The Supreme fits my need for milk, eggs, and the occassional meat deal.
I'm probably not shopping for the same stuff you are there, so it's really an apples and oranges comparison. But I think if you're flexible, you can get some good deals there. |

I was disappointed. I usually purchase my groceries at the Shoprite on Oregon, and I'll continue to do so.
Pros: --Fairly good selection of Asian, South American, Jewish, Jamaican, and other non-North American foods --Peanut Butter & Company peanut butter (This stuff is amazing and not easy to find in Philly) --Parking lot Cons: --Poorly laid out with tight, crowded aisles --Cart cage prevents you from easily toting a lot of bags to your car --Smells like old fish |

I went to Supreme today as well. It seemed better than the 40th street fressh grocer as far as selection, space, etc. didn't seem to be a lot of specials, as far as the stuff i was looking for.
then i went to the 56th st fresh grocer. i think that's going to become my new home: clean, spacious, good selection, and convinient (from there to home in 15 minutes via the el/surfrace streeet lines). if you live close to the el, i'd recommend checking it out. |

I think one of my biggest complaints was probably the fact that there's only one entrance and it has that annoying cart cage (which was already there from the Thriftway days).
Other than that, I was generally satisfied or impressed with just about everything except the selection and prices of the frozen section (no Boston Market meals and the only frozen pizza options were either overpriced DiGiorno or cheap, non-substatial no-name stuff). Good selection of international food, as others mentioned, but not as good a selections of Latin American foods as at Cousin's (although it's also smaller than the Cousin's I've been to).
