excellent commentary...i'm gonna guess you extensively studied that block in school or something.

the way the turret on the NW corner of 42nd and Pine is stuccoed over makes me die a little on the inside.

i always wondered about those arches on the block btwn pine and balt. i think they're pretty cool but in terms of longevity they're endangered species, considering they're at the mercy of dual ownership by west philly landlords and frat houses.

I am glad to see someone include a picture of the West Philly outside University City. It seems that most of the pictures are of the University City and Clark Park areas. Although those areas have some magnificently awesome mansions, I think the less affluent sections of West Philly have some pretty cool buildings as well.

I really like the block of houses in the first picture posted by Wysong. The colors are very distinctive and I love the detailed woodwork around the windows. I hope to do something similar with a house that I'm planning to buy sometime in the near future.

I also figured I'd introduce some modern stuff into the thread:

I know this thing ain't even finished yet, but it is HOT!

I think Marathon grill is pretty cool too:

Not as grand as anything on Woodland Terrace, or the 4200 block of Spruce ... but I love my c.1896 victorian house -see the little photo as my avatar - on Baltimore.
