Wow, after reading the threads in this post, I wish people were up in arms about the kids in Germantown like this. The kids in Germantown are going to be as bad as the kids in UC in a year or two, and nobody gives a crap about it. At least there's a large population of professionals in UC that are up on starting a town watch. There's alot of prospective homebuyers who are scared out of Germantown because the teens roam the streets, and their parents don't care about where they are. While the teens don't attack people like they do in UC, I fear they will soon. I really think the city needs to rethink it's laws regarding curfew, loitering, and parental responsibility. These teens had to have come from somewhere, and they're usually the results of bad parenting, but in the end, the general public has to pay for it.

JillyS,
Yeah, I know about the curfew laws, and I agree that they should be set earlier. Kids under 16 or 17 shouldn't in the street after 9pm without parent supervision (maybe 10pm in the summer). I think it's crazy to have kids out so late. They just get into trouble when they're out that late. Loitering laws should also be updated to stop kids from just hanging out on corners. You might also get a decent by-product like stopping the homeless from hanging out on corners as well. But, aside from wishful thinking, even if the city did pass laws of that nature, the PPD would hardly enforce them. I mean, let's face it. The PPD is under-funded, poorly run, and only concerned with parking tickets and homocides. Everything else is just banter to them. |
