Default Devil's Hole

I went out to Devil's Hole in Wissahickon to go swimming yesterday, and it is one of the strangest things I have seen in a long long while. You go walking through pristine wilderness, come up over a rock ledge, and you are suddenly in a block party in the middle of the woods. There were people that had about 50 pounds worth of grilling materials. You couldn't go 2 minutes w/o seeing someone rolling a joint, people were drinking 40's and jumping off cliffs into the pool...One extremely stupid kid actually jumped from the bridge (that I would say is easily 50-60 feet high) that goes over the hole. After that point we decided to leave, because if anyone else was going to try to prove their manhood by jumping off the bridge, we didn't want to see them crush their head open. Other than that one point I can't really say whether the experience out there was good or bad....it just seemed surreal.

I went there a couple of times when I was a teenager - me and some guys from the neighborhood would drive up from South Philly and jump and swim a few times. The scene wasn't as bad as you mention, but I had only gone during the week. That jump was pretty intense.

We did go down river a little bit to slide down the man-made falls of the Schuylkill. I still can't believe I went swimming there! Eck!

Devil's pond (hole) is a great place until the urban youth and their parents make it into a garbage dump.

"Ooo nature.... let's cover it with broken glass and trash!"

Devil's Pool in the Wissahickon. Its down from the Valley Green Inn on the other side of the creek, under the gravity pipe bridge.

No, not in the pool, but there are trout, carp, and small mouth bass in the Wissahickon.

Sure - fishing for used condoms, empty bottles of beers, wet McDonald's bags...

Stupid people die all over the place:

We just have to hope they don't take innocent people with them.
