If I remember correctly, he said he wouldn't bet his pension on it, but he'd have a "flutter." I took that to mean it might not be a sure bet, but perhaps a decent one.

In the last 6 months there was an article in the inquirer where Norwegian said they still intend to rehab the ship sometime in the next few years. I think that is probably since this was filmed, so hopefully it's more up to date info.

I'm disappointed to find that it's only on the HD station, I made my Friday plans around watching it. OK, truth is I'm home at 11:00 most Fridays, but I thought this one I'd at least have something good to watch.

Oh well.

It was a good program. I thought it was cool that on it's maiden voyage across the Atlantic, it went so fast that it actually blasted the paint off the bow. Oops!

We DVR'd it & still have it saved. If you still want to catch it & bring the wine, we can supply the popcorn...

I wonder why they just don't sell it for scrap.

With the current price of metal it's worth more as scrap than as a functional liner.

it's also had all of it's guts sold off... with the exception of the propulsion....which as mentioned doesn't work anymore...and would be nowhere near the efficiency of a modern liner.

I think it would make an AWESOME hotel down along the waterfront. I've been thinking that for years, I just never knew how to get the ball rolling.

Tell me that wouldn't be a cool place to hang your hat for the weekend as a tourist?

My parents took the United States from France to New York back in about 1965 and said it was an uncomfortable floating dump even back then, and it was only about a decade old. I doubt it would stand up well against the modern floating palaces that pass for cruise ships these days.

I find the United States strangely fascinating and compelling. There is something sad about driving by it as I zip among the big box stores in the area. A reminder of our collective mortality, I guess.
