Default Travel Agent needed!

I searched PB and saw that back in FEB there was info. on this topic. However, since it has been several months now I was hoping to ask both the old and new members if you could suggest a good travel agent.

My sister needs to find a honeymoon place for this OCT.

Thanks!

Travel agents are sooo 1990s -- unless you're going somewhere special like Poland or China or something like that, where a specialist's expertise can make all the difference.

Where does the happy couple want to go or what do they want to do?

Don't use Liz at Liberty Travel. She was recommended to us and I thought she knew her stuff but was just lackluster. She was also not that responsive which i thought was the whole point of a TA.

I respectfully disagree.

When a couple is very busy with their careers, they don't have the time or expertise to determine what might make a great vacation or honeymoon.

"In the old days," this was the travel agent's job. They loved to travel and shared this expertise.

I had a travel agent book me for an extra weekend in Paris because she said, "I've lived there, and you're going to regret it if you don't have this extra time there." She was right and I was very thankful for her providing this input.

Ariel,

Do they have a American Express card? I highly recommend American Express travel. Their staff is highly knowledgeable and have great relationships with resorts and such. I have used them personally and know of a lot of passengers at work that use the agency for travel.

Another benefit is that they have multiple safe guards incase of trip disruption and such, which you would not benefit from at another agency. I believe they run on a lower commission base also, so you would not be talked into booking a trip to a resort so the agent gets a bigger kickback.

See you at dinner.

Well, you do everything respectfully, pleasantly and politely. Would that I were able to do the same....

Anyway, my point was that travel agents work best when you can go to one who specializes in what you want to do. Do your family members want to walk on a beach or see something on Broadway? Do they want to hike or walk through a museum? Surely they must have some idea. And that will be the thing that decides what kind of travel agent -- or travel website -- to use.

Your own example showed how great your trip was because you had an agent whose experience dovetailed well with your interests.

As for wanting to make the honeymoon special, isn't that what the other person is for? (And you thought I wasn't a romantic....)

Let me recommend my friend Bianca Fiscella (bfiscella@aaamidatlantic.com) who is a travel agent at AAA's Haverford office. She's been an agent for about seven years, genuinely loves the travel industry, and is very friendly and outgoing!
