Default Need to get outdoors!

We want to go for a drive and then a walk in the woods with our dog. We don't want to go to the Forbidden Drive, Valley Forge or Ridley Creek State Park - can anyone recommend anything else in the area that would fit our needs? (dogs allowed, preferably something with a nice/scenic trail and not too far from Philly - 90 minutes max).

Bellevue is nice because of the mansion, lake, horse stables, and gravel track. However, it's not entirely large and there are lots of families there.

Further down in Wilmington, you can picnic near the water and visit the zoo.

Some parks do require a fee, but it's nominal.

Have fun!

Fees at the DE state parks don't start until May I think. Belleview park in North Wilmington is easy to get to from Philly. Belleview has a nice track, lake, picnic areas, horses, etc. beware it does get crowded on nice days. They do have bike rentals now stop at the park office. If you don't want to pay park at the corporate center next to Belleview and walk in you did not hear this from me though. There is a real nice cross country course to run or walk. Also, you could walk the Greenways to Rockwood mansion or drive directly there and walk to Belleview.

Brandywine is better to walk, go to the zoo, etc. I don't need to tell a PBer this, but if you go don't leave anything visible in your car. There have been some car break ins there near the baynard stadium probably just kids being idiots. The zoo is small and fun with or without kids.

Great! We did a long loop through Brandywine. Our dog is exhausted today. Definitely a good place to go and it wasn't crowded at all. Thanks again!

If you live in the city, I would rather just use the 15 trolley to go to the zoo. It drops you off by the main entrance.

You don't have to use the Broad Street line to get on the 15. You can get off the El in Fishtown (Girard Station) and start your ride from there if you don't care for the traffic and commotion at Girard and Broad.

And this is why you should donate to PACCA, not PETA:

In September, PETA made headlines in Vermont and across the nation for asking
Ben & Jerry's ice cream to use human breast milk in their ice cream, instead of cow milk

Wrong zoo. Good idea, though.

Excellent. There are a few other parks to try, so you won't be bored for a while.
