I forgot all about The Empire Rock Club. I'm really, really getting old.

Miss Cupcake, nice avatar. LOL A while ago my friend went to see somebody at TLA. One of those offshoots I think of The Grateful Dead. Maybe Weir or someone. It was raining out, and the TLA had this big leak, and the bands playing, and getting rained on, and they had to stop the show so nobody got electrocuted.

Shades of RoKy Horror Picture Show crossed my mind. LOL

ACE,
Actually I found my answer about the other Cabaret in a completely unrelated thread:http://www.phillyblog.com/philly/sho...7&postcount=65
It figures that a guy with a Beru Review avatar would know this.

Well I'll have you know that I didn't know what an "avatar" was until I joined Phillyblog. Thank you Ace! I'm glad you noticed. (wink)

Default 1989 - 1992 Chestnut Cabaret & Khyber Pass

Chestnut Cabaret had some great acts come through up until its demise (some time in the early mid-90's.
Last show I saw there was a split hip-hop/Metal show with Ice-T/Body Count in early 1992 a few days before the the album came out with "Cop Killer". I saw some good shows there between 1989 - 1992 including;

Red Hot Chili Peppers / Raging Slab (Mother's Milk tour)
Consolidated / MC 900 FT Jesus
Schoolly D (Am I Black Enough For You? - 1989)
Dread Zeppelin (a few times) once with Mojo Nixon
Ramones
Dee Dee Ramone (solo)

Khyber Pass in Olde City during the same time had some great acts play the small stage before the Trocadero began booking most of the acts. This is a short list;
Bullet LaVolta
Deadspot / Scab Cadillac (both Philly bands)
Smashing Pumpkins (June 1991)
GG Allin (summer 1991)
Alice Donut (did a comeback show there 2004)
Ultra Bide
The Goats (okay that was mid 90's - just played there Jan 13th)
Reverand Horton Heat
Henry Rollins (1990)
God Bullies
The Dwarves
Agent Orange

Thanks Kevosh. Yeah, Wolf is one of the faithfull.

I'm glad you found it because I was trying to think of the Ambler as I went there with my friend who was among the loyal BR fans. He passed away, and I was trying to think where that one was.

Oh I would love to see that footage of GG Allin. What would have happened if he ran into the Smashing Pumpkins? Excellent.

Oh yeah I remember that "Cop Killer" being all controversial. Cool you got to see that.

Default Chestnut Cabaret Shows - 1986 to close

Ramones, X, Pogues, Psychic TV, Buzzcocks (or one of their guys), Devo I think, The Fall, Alien Sex Fiend. I have pics from one of the Ramones shows there. And ASF. sheesh, that was the place for shows back in those days. I bet if I gave it more thought I could come up with more bands (or look through old ticket stubs), too! What a fun place. Good times. Even going backstage w/ the Ramones.

Whoa. Some serious great acts there.

I only saw David Bromberg, and Albert Collins there that I remember.

Where the heck was I? Oh, and I think John Lee Hooker. Think that's where i was. Still wished I saw ol' GG rest his soul.

Default GG Allin at the Crypt?

I THINK GG Allin may have played a show at the Crypt, which was on the 42XX block of Walnut (north side). This is going back 20 years, though, and it's a little hazy. Anyone? (I think I was there? Ugghh...guhh...guh....)
