Well if anyone can get on down to Penn's Landing to check out the little harp seal. My wife and I swung by to see him/her sitting in the sun on our way to the Super Fresh.
Cute as the dickens it is. Kind of reminds you just how close to the sea Philly is ... anyone ready for some Right Whales? |

Just like being at the pier in SF!
I enjoyed some quality frisbee with the dog and did some yard work!

Harp Seal Headed Home PENN'S LANDING-February 29, 2004 — The young harp seal that had docked itself at Penn's Landing has returned home to the ocean. ![]() The 2-year-old endangered mammal drew a crowd when it decided to take a rest at Penn's Landing this weekend. Officials at the Mammal Stranding Center in Brigantine, were concerned that with all the attention the seal got the seal could be put in danger or someone could be hurt trying to rescue it. Members of the Philadelphia Police Marine Unit put the seal in a big net yesterday and took it to the stranding center. The harp seal stayed at the stranding center until late Sunday morning. Officials released it on a private beach at the Jersey shore in the mornning, and it wasted no time getting back into the water. (© 2004 WPVI-TV 6. All rights reserved.) |

I had a friend visiting who'd never been to Philly, and this was the perfect weekend for it.
We went to Rittenhouse and sat outside for a while, and thought about getting coffee at La Colombe and ice cream at Scoop de Ville, but everybody else had the same idea and we didn't want to deal with the lines. We went to the Cosi on Walnut, which was packed but tolerable. We did cave and wait an hour for Jim's on Sunday, twice as long as I was expecting to have to wait. Everybody must still be in "winter mode" and operating slowly. She's a TJ fan, so I also took her on a tour of all the Founding Fathers sites (Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, BF's grave & house, Declaration House, the spot where "Common Sense" was first printed, etc.). Between that, Rittenhouse, and my neighborhood I think she got a good first glimpse of Philadelphia. I never get tired of showing the city to people. I'm still craving the ice cream so I might go back to Scoop de Ville today, while it's still warm.
