What is the best way to get single-game tickets outside of StubHub or making fake ones? If someone goes to the game what are people's successes with getting last minute tix from other people?

Scalping at the game is your best bet. I have tried for the random lottery the last 5 years with no success.

If you call around 1-2 pm on the Thursday before the home game you can get tickets that were turned in or released
