Default NHL former teams????

Which team was the first US-based team to play in the Stanley Cup Finals?
Portland Rosebuds.

It was in the 1916 Finals against the Canadians.

Where team is Rosebuds now?

Calgary has two teams?

I thought the Atlanta Flames moved to Calgary. In fact, I know they did.

The Seals went to Cleveland.

Remember the Kansas City Scouts? They became the Colorado Rockies and then became the New Jersey Devils!
I liked the Nordiques..and what a shame for Minnesota that the North Stars left for Dallas. Look at Dallas now..even though the Wild have become a strong team! The Hartford Whalers probably needed to move..playing in a mall wasn't exactly a great marketing arrangement!

Default One year blunder.

Philly had the Quakers who played for only one year 1930-31, and were only able to get 4 wins. They were originally the Pittsburgh Pirates and were only to be here until a new arena was constructed in Pittsburgh. They sucked so bad, and were so in debt, the team never played again after that season. Philly then remained teamless until the Flyers.

Both teams played in the Pacific Coast Hockey Leauge

The 1st Rosebuds team closed shop after the 1917-1918. No idea what then happend to the franchise. I can only assume they ended operations.

The Mets closed shop after the 1923-24 season and never relocated or played again as a franchize

A second Rosebuds team played in the Western Hockey Leauge in 1926-27. The Regina Capitals moved to Portland and were renamed. The leauge then folded after that season. The Rosebud Franchise ended and some players went on to play for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Then merged with the Minnesota North Stars. Not sure but former Flyer Simon Nolet may have been the captain for the KC Scouts.

They merged with the Stars after they were in Cleveland.

The merge actually worked out well. The North Stars made the semis against the Flyers in '80 and lost to the Isles in the '81 Final.

How great was the North Stars logo?

The Portland Rosebuds name was used by two professional
men's ice hockey teams based in Portland, Oregon. Both
played their home games at the Portland Ice Arena.

The first team played in the Pacific Coast Hockey
Association from 1914 to 1918. In 1916 they became the
first United States-based team to participate in the
Stanley Cup Finals.

The second Rosebuds team was born when the Regina Capitals
moved to Portland for the 1925-26 WHL season, the final
one for the Western Hockey League. When the league folded,
many of the players transferred to the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Seattle Metropolitans were an ice hockey team based in
Seattle, Washington which played in the Pacific Coast
Hockey Association from 1915 to 1924. They won the Stanley
Cup in 1917, becoming the first American team to do so, by
defeating the National Hockey Association's Montreal
Canadiens three games to one by a combined score of 19 to
3

The California Golden Seals were a team in the National
Hockey League (NHL) from 1967-76. Initially named
California Seals, the team was renamed Oakland Seals
part-way through the 1967-68 season, and then to
California Golden Seals in 1970.

After nine money-losing seasons and continued low
attendance, minority owners George and Gordon Gund
persuaded partners to move the team to their hometown of
Cleveland in June 1976, where they were renamed the
Barons. After two more years of losses, the Gunds (by this
time majority owners) were permitted to merge the Barons
with the financially struggling Minnesota North Stars. The
merged team continued as the Minnesota North Stars under
the Gunds' ownership, but assumed the Barons' place in the
Adams Division.

The collapse of the Barons/Seals would prove the most
recent major professional team in North America to fold,
as well as the only team in the NHL to do so since 1942.

First NHL jersey I ever owned, remember seeing them play the Flyers quite a few times at the Spectrum back in the day with the Gumper in the nets and a psycho named Hextall roaming the ice.
