They have a right to come, but when they don their colors and chant their teams chants on National TV, they are completely fair game to any and all insults. They can't have their cake and eat it too. Once again, I am not condoning violence at any level. Not even spitting or throwin Peanuts, but I do take issue when our stadium starts to become flooded with Blue and Orange. I find it well within my right and take pride in making it a rough experience for Mets fans to try and make Citizens Bank park their second stadium. If they take issue with my insults, they are well within their right to leave or say something witty back. I had a couple Mets fans on Friday night say you "Your right, we do suck after that collapse last year". I found that to be pretty funny and left those guys alone the rest of the night. They weren't screaming "Lets go Mets" either. That annoys me more than anything. Last edited by Towelie : 04-21-2008 at 11:31 AM. |

Say what you will, I've been attending Phillies games for years and my allegiance lies with them. If, however, to be considered a true fan in the eyes of the Phillies Faithful I have to curb my own personal values and act in a hostile manner towards people who did nothing but express their allegiance to a rival, then I do not wish to do so.

I do think our "attytood" is a bit over-exploited.

We are Philly. We are a prideful city and will uphold any rivalry. We bark and heckle all we want because we can, because that's who we are and how we do things around here. Anyone coming to our home stadiums to root against us should have a clear understanding of how Philadelphia Sports Fans are.
I go to a Phils' away game every season, I've been Boston, L.A., this year to be at Shea. I go wearing my Phillies t-shirt and hat and expect to get heckled, and have been. Sometimes pretty bad. Any visiting team to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia should have that same expectation, especially Braves and Mets fans in the MLB, Cowboys and Giants fans in the NFL, and especially since we are Philadelphia and we are the most prideful in our sports teams. The Phillies-Mets rivalry is at an alltime high right now, especially after the 2007 season. The players themselves are even heckling each other. There's nothing wrong with that. I, too, am not condoning violence, but there is nothing unhelathy about a little heckling between sports fans. Violence is unlikely, and it shouldn't be made into a big deal because it rarely happens. And I think alcohol induces more streaking across the outfield than it does fist fights between fans. |

That "our taxes-our stadium-show respect-make the experience as less enjoyable as possible" attitude (without physical violence, of course) is.....sorry...."dumb". We were at our first phillies game on friday, (my third baseball game in the US), and besides the drunk fights (about 2 only) and those idiot kids yelling METS SUCK! at random people (lots of phillies fans btw) scaring the heck outta them, I didn't saw a real hostile attitude by the crowd as a whole. Yes, chanting against mets fans (or any other besides the home team) is part of the experience, and thats ok, specially when you see laughing from both sides..... but from there to make them have a lousy experience?....c'mon. So no one can go out, buy tickets, spend money inside the stadium and see their team play without that verbal abuse and annoyance?...what about little kids and their parents?, what about older people?....or even young people, why can't they have a good time? Anyhooo...it wasn't as bad as the Yankees.....do a search on youtube for "bleachers creatures" and you'll see the yankees fans harrassing both red sox and mets fans....however, on some of those you can see also the "harrassed" one is having a good time...and thats what matters. Games at Shea are pretty good. Rowdy fans on both sides, we definitely bring the attytude, but Mets fans also dole out there fair share of insults.
The whole point to verbally harassing other fans is to keep the cheers for the opposing team to a minimum. If a fan from the opposing team is sulking because he had his feelings hurt it means he's not cheering. If he's not cheering, his team doesn't hear the fans cheering them on; thus the opposing team does not get energized and we win ![]() Last edited by metaldeth81 : 04-21-2008 at 01:21 PM. |

I was at last night's (Sunday 4/20) game up in the cheap 400 level seats. It seemed that the Mets fans that got heckled the most were the most vocal. I saw plenty of Mets fans that were just watching the game and cheering when their team actually did something. These people were left alone for the most part. The ones doing their little cheers every five minutes regardless of what happened in the game deserve to get boo'd and heckled. You can't come to an opposing teams stadium and expect to be able to cheer like you are at home.
