it didn't need it's own thread: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3298035
Damn, that was cheap. Granted he's not a legit #1, but he's probably better than any of the Eagles receivers right now (when healthy). He's also 6'2", 200+. I really thought the Eagles might sign at least one WR, but now I don't think there are any left that would help them too much. |

At that price I can't believe the Eagles didn't take a run at him either. When healthy, Hackett was a very good receiver for the Seahawks last year. |

The Eagles are a bushleague operation.
Lito Sheppard's key mistake was that he let it be known that he wanted fair market value. To the Eagles any player that wants to be paid is a bad guy. The only problem is EVERY player wants more money. That is life in the NFL. Does anyone remember when Bill Parcells signed with the Cowboys and Joe Gibbs signed with the Redskins? Andy Kotites agent went on a publicity tour and was quoted in all the papers and he went on WIP talking about how underpaid Andy Reid was and he deserved a new deal. Reid eventually got a new deal. Now Lito wants a new deal and suddenly he is a bad guy. All the Eagles had to do was say no. Lito would have went back to playing and that would have been the end of the story. Instead the EAgles held a grudge and had to make an issue of the situation. I have heard the Eagles complain about Lito wanting a new contract but I have never actually heard Lito complain about the contract. The one guy that we heard complaining about his contract was actually Brian Westbrook. Does that mean the Eagles should get rid of Westbrook too? That would be pretty stupid wouldn't it? Is Assante Samual worth 5 times more than Lito Sheppard? |

I actually think the Eagles for the most part are pretty good on determining when to cut loose on a contract.
Outside of T.O. (and the circumstances practically dictated his release), I can't think of a single player that the Eagles (under Reid) cut or traded that improved after leaving the Eagles. I would call that very good cap management, not bushleague. As far as the Sheppard deal goes, the Eagles will more than likely trade him on or prior to draft day. But if they do not and what you say is true, then why not simply keep him on the roster and either have 3 corners (which just about any team would kill for) or allow Sheldon to play free safety and Dawkins to move to strong safety. I admit it is alot of movement and not probable but it sure looks like a powerful defense. |
