Default McNabb

Quote:
McNabb, embroiled in a controversy not of his own making, bruised his right leg early and was scattershot in his performance, his passes frequently more erratic and sporadic than accurate, and it was difficult not to believe that, even if subconsciously, he was affected by the firestorm that had been ignited by Rush Limbaugh, and perhaps was trying to force the issue.

Certainly such a reaction would only make him human.

Is htis guy trying to give Rush fuel for his fire? given ,cnabb's past three outings, why would we have to belive he was affected by anything? he has been this bad all year. why is he making excuses? if it weren't for the defense and westbrook we would have lost this one to. !TD, 157 yds, and 2 INT does not a probowler make. thoughts?

No, statistics-wise, he did not have a good game at all, but he did fine on the most important stat of all: number of wins.

He's a lot like McNair for the Titans. He's not always pretty, but more often than not, he does enough for the team to win. Could McNabb have done better? Sure, but I'll take the win more than anything.

Also, keep in mind, there was at one huge McNabb run that was called back by a (very stupid) holding penalty by Lewis. A 56-yard run can change the complexion of the game, especially that early in the game.

But who would you rather take in to battle? I'd take McNair in a second. He's always there in the clutch. Though McNabb may have more wins (and don't get me wrong - he should get credit for that) McNair has battled through everything and anything to just make it to the field on any given Sunday.

Plus he's not afraid to call himself a "running" quarterback.

ilike how stats mean nothing. i watched the game. he didn;t win it. a qb has a large influence on a game and the eagles won despite a poor performance form their qb. w/ a def TD and a decent running game. let's not forget that. mcnabb looked every bit as bad as his numbers.

I know he has his faults. He is not an accurate quarterback by any stretch. He needs to do a better job of protecting the ball when he takes off running. He makes some bad decisions sometimes. His numbers just plain suck far more often than they should.

All of that said, if you put him on any other team, I say he does just as good a job as the current quarterback, and a better job in some cases.

Give him a receiver like Harrison, Moss or Owens and his numbers will improve. Not only will the receiver make big plays, he takes pressure off of the other receivers. Far more often than not, McNabb needs to make a throw to a receiver that hasn't separated enough from his coverage, which makes an incompletion or interception more likely. Add to it Reid almost never calls for deep throws, which allows defenses to cheat on the short passes. Part of that goes back to the fact we don't have a deep threat.

The fact is McNabb is the face of the team, so he gets more credit and more heat that any other player. The same goes for Farve in Green Bay, Manning in Indy and every other major player for each team.

while that may be true, mcnabb is usually way off on the deep ball even when the receiver is open. many times receivers are open and he doesn't see them. the problem isn't just the receivers. they don't need less pressure, they need decent passes.

First, how often is McNabb even given the chance to throw a deep ball? If you only give him one or two chances a game, of course he's not going to complete too many.

Second, if the deep passes aren't completed even half the time, the threat of the deep pass still forces the defense to respect it.

Lastly, if you're going to bring up "decent passes", then you need to call the receivers on the number of catchable passes that they drop.

Okay, NOW you can rip McNabb all you want. I'm going to be right behind you after this pathetic display.

To be a little fair, Reid screwed up with the onside kick call and I felt that way even when it looked like the team would pull a win out in the end.

But for the most part, I blame McNabb for this loss. How in the world can he not only allow himself to get sacked on the last play, but cough the ball up as well?! I would be so much less aggravated right now if Akers tried a 50+ yard field goal and missed. At least he would have been given a shot at winning the game. McNabb looked like the second round quarterback who nobody can believe was drafted on that play and ... ARGH!

This sucks.

The O line has to share in a bit of the blame, he got knocked around a lot today, but still, he can't cough it up! Especially with our kicker!

I feel your pain. At least Washington lost too. Now we all have to play catch up with Dallas. I'm looking forward to next week.
