Default Committee eyeing Philadelphia for NCAA lacrosse finals

Committee eyeing Philadelphia for lacrosse finals
Lincoln Financial Field could host 2005, 2006 college championships

The NCAA Lacrosse Committee has recommended Philadelphia, not Baltimore, as the host of the men's lacrosse championship weekend in 2005 and 2006, likely ending Baltimore's and M & T Bank Stadium's two-year run as host this May.

The NCAA Management Committee, which is meeting in Indianapolis this week, still has to decide whether or not to accept the lacrosse committee's recommendation. Sources said that the management committee could name Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field, the brand new $520 million home of the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, the site for the next two lacrosse semifinals and finals as early as today.

Ah something I know!

This would be great for Philly, and I hope they tie it in with some development work for the city and local leagues. Lacrosse will not draw what other sports will in most towns, but being right between NY and MD, there could be a nice little uptick in hotel rooms and restaurant reservations for the weekend.

Some rivalries in the sport are really great to watch. JHU/UMD in lacrosse really rivals Texas/Oklahoma in passion if not attendance... though the last time I saw it the stadium was PACKED.

On a sidebar, if you have not seen a Wings game yet- I would suggest it. Fast and fun.
