Default A disappointing Eagle start

Like most of you, I watched the Eagle game tonight and am obviously disappointed - not in the defense, that played its heart out after being forced to be on the field almost the entire game. The loss tonight rests squarely on the offense, or lack of offense.

I can understand having trouble moving the ball against the NFL's toughest D. What I can't understand is how you can be afraid to run the ball when you only have to gain 1 yard??? This is a problem that goes back to last year - the Eagles, for some unexplainable reason, always try to do something cute on 3rd and 1 instead of just jamming the ball up the middle like most NFL teams.

If you don't have the confidence to have your offensive line get you one yard when you need it - get a new offensive line. If you can't get one yard on 3rd and 1, you can't play in the NFL

suicide watch on WIP this morning, fer sure...

one thing I've learned as an auslander - Philly loves their Eagles, and suffers the stings of their defeats more than any city I've seen.

here's to winning the next one against the bucs, in december?

Default Inexplicable

What I want to know is - what was the game plan? McNabb looked like he was glued to the grass most of the time, with very little of that amazing agility that has distinguished his play. The running game was indeed pathetic. I just got the feeling the offense was sort of hoping the ball would somehow find its way upfield by itself.

Yes, kudos to the defense. They're used to the idea of having to carry the team on their backs. They allowed 17 points ultimately, but they were tough for a long time before tiring out.

Given the apparent lack of a plan or at least a worthwhile game plan, who would you pin the blame on for this loss? Andy Reid? Ourselves for getting our hopes up so hi? Donovan McNabb?

Or do you think that this was just a fluke?

The team has an offensive line that many consider to be one of the best, if not the best, in the league. They have a new fullback who thrives on plowing into linebackers to open holes for the running back. And they have a quarterback that defenses have to worry about running it in. Yet they won't take advantage of all of those factors and try running it in.

Very frustrating, to say the least.

How do you feel about this week's game? With our injuries and NE's offense, it is going to be tough for us to win, unless Donovan can put together a great game.

"NE's offense"? The offense that bageled against the Bills last week? Not that the Philly offense looked so hot this past week. Reid's got to loosen up on the play calling and get some longer pass routes going. The O line needs to stand a good bit firmer and give him some time to deliver those passes.

But while the O was definitely disappointing on Monday, the TB defense is truly remarkable. They are so strong and so fast that Donovan rarely had much time at all. Things should be easier against NE, but the road to the SuperBowl obviously goes back through Tampa, and so the Eagles need to know how they're going to solve those problems.

I heard an interesting yet somewhat meaningless statistic on WIP.

The Eagles have never won their first regular-season game in a new stadium. They lost in the Baker Bowl in 1933, Municipal Stadium and Shibe Park in 1940, Franklin Field in 1958, the Vet in 1971, and now in the Linc.

hmm.

and they have a running back in Duce STaley who is slow even whenhe doesn't skip camp. i think the offense lacks talent. McNabb is an average passer. Duce can only hit wide open holes, can't turn a corner, and can;t create something out of nothing. can hardly get a good run when there is a hole. he's like an old car. once he'smoving he's hard to stop but it's hard to ever get enough time to get him up to speed. the receivers aer average and the O line may be the best in the NFL, but that ain't saying much for the league. they are good but not great. was simeon rice even covered? the offense, like every year, suffers form a lack of talent. mcnabb hasn;t had a good game since signing his contract last year.
