Default Eagles: Pre-season game #1 vs. New Orleans

Eagles looks sharp in winning preseason opener

Yeah, I know it's only the first pre-season game, but they still played very well. Plus, it's nice to see Freddy Mitchell with a TD grab and Sheppard return a punt for a TD. Hopefully this is a sign that losing Brian Mitchell won't be too much to overcome.

Add last night's win to the less-than-spectacular openers for the division "rivals", including two of them getting shut out, and my optimism for the season went up a notch or two.

You beat me too it..

The Game was AWESOME! Period. While I still am shaky about our receiver corps, I am not as petrified as I once was.

McNabb looked GREAT!

Offense
That McMillan guy (the rookie) did not have the best hands, but it's his first game, right? Mitchell looked OK, supposedly he went out to Arizona to train with McNabb. Supposedly the kid had a hard time with the west coast style of offense, and now "understands it" he's been such a disappointment to date, that i am very wait and see.

Speaking of McNabb, he looked smooth out there, the O-line looked good while McNabb was out there, in the third quarter the saints started getting to Feely a bit.

The saints went through a major overhaul of their defense and we killed em, keep in mind though that McAllister and Horn were not playing last night.

Special teams
Akers did look great, I mean he's another one...cool as ice.
Now on the defensive side of the spec. teams, we gave up some big runs, I was not impressed, and think that we need to work there most (based on what i saw yesterday)

Defense looked good too, I think we'll be fine even w/ the departures from last year, I really do.

Duce is in trouble, he better get on board and soon.

I didn't watch much of their game last week. Was that the sound they made when the Patriots kicked their heads in? Seven sacks and four turnovers. Very nice.

How's this for a sound?

...

That's the sound of Eagles fans not being the slightest bit scared of the Giants this season.

Or maybe it's easier to imagine the "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!" of Eagles fans when told of the Giants' "improved" team.

Well, let's not get too excited. Jaws doesn't pick them to win the division, I heard today.

I agree Duce better get on board - and fast. The relationship is already strained.

Like I said above, it is only a pre-season game. But out of all of the NFC East teams, it was by far the best showing, so it helps ease any concerns, even if it's only a little bit.

As for Jaws not picking the team, that's okay. I know a lot of television and radio people think the Eagles have lost a lot, but there are just as many that still think the Eagles are the best bet. If the season was decided by the number of expers who liked you team best, then I might be a bit more worried.

Very true ... ... I just found it surprising, I guess, that someone as close to the team as he is would pick against it.

Good source of motivation, I suppose.

I guess. Though if I were on the team, losing in the conference championship game twice in a row would be more than enough motivation for me.

What about last night's game vs. Pittsburgh? Slow start, but not too shabby! As for the Giants...I think that Shockey needs to do a bit more performing on the field and a little less running his mouth off the field.

I think he'll bring it this season and back up all the talk. He should have been rookie of the year last year.
