Default The Marlins will be the Phillies' undoing

After watching the ugly sweep this weekend, I can only say that if the Phils don't find a way to beat Florida, they're not going to make it into the postseason.

Six more games against the Marlins - yeesh.

Taking a look at the schedule, it's going to take some very good play by the team for the remaining games against the Marlins to be a factor.

3 @ Colorado (.500 team)
3 @ San Fran (very tough)
3 vs. Milwaukee (okay, those should be wins)
3 vs. St. Louis (fighting for play-offs)
3 @ Milwaukee
3 @ St. Louis
4 @ Montreal (fighting for play-offs)
3 @ Mets (they stink, but it's still a rival)
1 vs. Boston (maybe best team in MLB now?)
2 vs. Montreal
4 vs. Mets
4 @ Atlanta (might be coasting into play-offs?)
3 @ Pittsburgh (non-factor by then, hopefully)
3 vs. Florida
3 vs. Cincinnati
3 @ Florida
3 vs. Atlanta

So, 29 of 51 games after the Padres series are against, at a minimum, very solid teams. I don't think I'd be a homer for saying that if they find a way to win the wild card spot, they're not going to be a team anyone wants to face. Especially if the pitching keeps up, because pitching becomes so key in the play-offs.

Looks like thome is cooling off a bit, ouch. But man Byrd has stepped up big time, I never expected to see that.

I wish that we would have tried to get a closer, now were stuck with the by committee situation at a very important time. The overlooking of a good closer could prevent the phillies form getting the wildcard, and if that is the case, I'll be pissed with the front office.

Default Marlins

OK, so I probably shouldn't, but I can't resist reviving this thread long enough to say - damn. What a sorry showing in Florida.

Now our best hope is - what? The Flyers?

When you're right, you're right. Unfortunately, neil was very right.

The best hope now? Um...at this point, I'm deleting "hope" from my vocabulary when speaking of Philadelphia sports teams. Well, at least for a couple of days until I can get over the Phillies falling short this season.
