Default Banner, new policy?

how arrogant is this
"It is patently irresponsible in this day and age to question the motives behind a policy driven by and recommended by security experts,'' Banner said."
what do you think of the new food, umbrella, sign, smoking, coolers, bag larger than 12x12x12, stollers, video cameras, video capable cell phone ban at the linc?

Wait, what?!

I must have glossed over that part of the article yesterday. I was only aware of the ban on food, which irked me enough as it is.

What's the danger in signs? A mass terrorist attack of paper cuts?!

This is beyond ridiculous. The article mentioned that a couple stadiums have reversed policy after fan protests. This needs to happen here before it becomes an accepted policy.

Do you think that the ban on food is for any other reason than to sell more concessions?

Have they ever allowed in outside food? I thought that was always a policy. Why else have I been sneaking stuff in for all these years?

Probably not. If it was a genuine safety concern, why are the implementing it now and not last season?

Maybe they didn't care if the Vet was blown up, but no way they're letting that happen to the Linc.

It has been said, in many circles that the current Eagles' mangement/ownership does not care about the fans or at least the current fanbase that has supported the team for decades and is looking to attract a more upscale fan. What are your thoughts on this?

I'm not knocking football fans for saying this since I'm one, but...

Isn't the term "upscale football fan" an oxymoron?

It's a game where players purposely try to drive each other into the ground, bone-jarring hits, with terrible weather in most cities. What's upscale about football?

The most trendy city in the country, Los Angles, lost both of their teams because nobody went to games. Even now, the league is trying to get back into LA, but they're running into the minor issue that nobody in that city cares if the NFL comes back. Perhaps there's a lesson to be learned.

If he wants upscale, use the Linc in off days to host cricket and polo matches.

Speaking of weather, is anyone else annoyed that the superbowl is always in a southern city with nice weather? I love games like the Ice Bowl. The days of running backs like Joe Morris, the all weather runner are over. I always loved the Dever/Giants games in the 80's. Blizzard conditions, low visablity, ram it up the middle football. I love the Giants use of "The Doors". Closed when we have the ball, open when they have it. Dancing in the end zone, taunting your opponent, have fun, football. Now it is much less emotional. If you show your emotions on the field it's a penalty. BS.

Default "the Linc"

Like that nickname, by the way. There's got to some way of humanizing these awful corporate names (though we could have done worse than "Lincoln Financial Field" - "Zap.com field" or some other stupid internet type thing for example?).

It was pointed out on Channel 6 yesterday that most other venues in the area, including the Riversharks' field in Camden (i.e., even the piddling minor leagues) have never allowed food. So it's not a particularly revolutionary policy.

That being said, I do agree that Eagles seem to be doing a lot to alienate their blue-collar fan base, starting with that ridiculous stuff with the season tickets. And no, football is not an "upscale" sport, though obviously the Iggles are trying to make it that way.

Security...pah. If some terrorist can figure out how to pack a hoagie with C4 explosives, then we're all screwed anyway, inside or outside of "the Linc."

1) although i didn't know it, apparentl you can bring hoagies wrapped in clear plastic to games. i was readign that for some deli's this is big business. one guy said he did a thousand hoagies for the tampa game. for a small biz that's a lot of dough. 8+ times/yr. If I ahd known this policy I woudl have been bringing food too. the arrogance of that statement though. its not a security measure, it's a bunch of sh*t, as someone else mentioned, if it were security it wouldn't have taken thislong to implement. to say "don't question it" to me says there is little good justification for it. it's expensive enough to go to a game, why not let us cut corner here. if they had designed the layout of the stadiums better there might be businesses around (wasn't this supposed to bring jobs and prosperity?-apparently only to the eagles) where you could eat right before or after the game.
as for "upscale" I think monied would be more appropriate. also, to counter that ch. 6 claim. the DN compared teh security measures with the Meadowlands...arguably the most jsutified to impose restrictions and ours are more restricitive.
