Default Annika Sorenstam playing in the PGA

Well she's off, and it looks like she's doing ok, almost every shot in the fairway...I don't know what the big deal about her playing is, she's at the top of her game in the womens and got an invite to play in the tournament.

Well here's a link to her hole by hole play:

She finished the first round at +1, tied for 73rd place. The top 70 and ties make the cut, so she's still very much in the hunt.

Watching her play today, I was very impressed with how she played. If she continues driving and approaching the way she did today and improves her putting tomorrow, she'll be fine.

Seems like she missed a lot of close putts, that sucks. Do you think having her play takes away from the game?

Absolutely not. I think it's wonderful that she's testing herself to see just how good she really is. As for any men that have issue with her playing, I just laugh. It's like they're all still 7 years old and it's the most embarrassing thing in the world to lose to a girl.

It's not like she's a complete novice to the sport who's coming in and beating most of the field. She's a professional players who's won a bunch of tournaments. Where's the shame in that? If anything, a lot of those guys should wish they could drive half as straight as she can.

As for her putting, yeah, that does need to improve in order to make the cut, but considering the circumstances, she did better than I would have under that kind of pressure and scrutiny.

In the absolute loosest use of the term, yeah. I just picked up my clubs for the first time in two years last Sunday. I only need a couple hundred more trips to the practice range before I'm ready for a round of 18.

When I was younger, I went out with my father and grandfather a bunch of times. Since then, though, it's been mostly the odd round of miniature golf.

Well, the wheels came off a bit on the front nine today, with three bogeys. She finished up +5 for the two rounds, tied for 95th.

Despite missing the cut, I think she did very well and should be proud of her efforts.

I think that there were several issues were her playing. First and foremaost was that she did not qualify and took a spot away from a male member of the tour who could have used the opportunity. That was one argument being thrown around.

In addition, since men are specifically banned from entering any women's tournaments, some people argued that the same should thus hold true for her and Men's tournaments. A final arguement was that if she really wanted to test herself, she could have done so out of the limelight. This course was specifically chosen for her because it would be easier for her to compete on it.

I really don't care one way or another, but two things bothered me:

1) That some of the best players in the world in this "sport" were threatened by a woman who they supposedly were not threated by.

2) That the course was sepcifcally chosen for her to test herself and not to make any statement.

I seemed a bit strange on both sides, but it is only a game. And she really had no impact on the tournament in the end. What are your thoughts?

She was given a sponsor's exemption to play, so I don't know if that means she took another player's place or not. However, even if it does, I have no problem with it. It's one tournament, not the entire season. Plus, not all of the big names, including Tiger, played the tournament, so there were spots not normally open available to rookies and fringe players.

As for the course itself, it may be a short course compared to most of the other courses on tour, but it is by no means an easy course.

I don't think she was testing herself to see if she could hit from the men's tees and do well. She wanted to test herself against a higher standard of play. The only way she could do that was at a tournament, so keeping out of the spotlight wasn't much of an option.

No, she didn't have an impact on the final standings of the tournament, but she sure impressed the heck out of me.

Do you think that this was a good thing for golf?
