Default Tickets to the Phillies season opener

There are only 5000 tickets left, and you have to register online by Friday, February 13th to qualify for a random drawing. Details below.

Fans get chance for tix to opener
Register for the chance to buy Opening Day tickets.

PHILADELPHIA -- While Veterans Stadium reaches dusk with a full-scale garage sale, the Phillies announced plans to usher in the dawn of Citizens Bank Park.

Because of the overwhelming demand for tickets to the first regular-season game -- April 12 against the Reds at 1:05 p.m. ET -- the Phillies are holding a random drawing for fans.

Fans must register on www.phillies.com starting Feb. 6 through Feb. 13, for the chance to buy tickets. The team plans to make more than 5,000 available through the drawing, with each winner eligible to purchase two tickets. Winners will be notified via e-mail on Feb. 15.

Partial season-ticket holders have an advantage as far as the number of tickets available. Those fans who have paid accounts in full by Feb. 20 will automatically be submitted in a drawing to buy Opening Day seats, with more than 15,000 available. Each winner can purchase two tickets, and they will be notified during the week of Feb. 23.

"With the tremendous demand for tickets and the fact we have 22,000 fewer seats than at Veterans Stadium, it is impossible to accommodate every request," said Richard Deats, vice president for ticket operations. "Our goal was to come up with a plan that gave as many fans as possible a chance to purchase a couple of tickets."

Registered fans who aren't selected for Opening Day tickets will likely get dibs on tickets for the other eight games during the inaugural homestand, subject to demand and availability. The Phillies and Reds play on April 14 at 7:05 and at 1:05 on April 15.

The Expos (April 16-18) and Marlins (April 20-22) each visit for three games after the Reds leave town.

Season-ticket plans are still on sale. The Phillies have already sold 21,700 packages, the most season-ticket plans purchased in their history. Individual game tickets to the other 80 home games go on sale Feb. 19.

Tickets may be purchased on phillies.com, through the Phone Center (215-463-1000) or in person at the Citizens Bank Park ticket windows. Phone Center and ticket window hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekends.

I signed up a couple days ago. The only issue I had with it was you had to give them your credit card number so they can charge you if you're one of the winners. Still, I hope I'm one of the lucky ones.

I agree that was presumptuous of them.

I really hope I can get tickets. My father and I went to the last game at the Vet and I'd like to take him to the first game at the new place.

I'm thinking along the same lines. I'm sure some of my friends would be disappointed if I didn't invite them, but if I get tickets, the first person I'm asking is my grandfather. He might say no because he refuses to go see "overpaid crybaby athletes", but I'm hoping he'd make an exception.

I registered as well. It would be great to be there. Maybe if we all get tix we can tailgate together!

It's not looking like I won any tickets. Rats.

Anyone else have better luck?

For anyone interested, tickets for the general public go on sale today, 2/19, at 6 a.m., according to the e-mail I received.

Nope. I did about as well as Pat Burrell against a fastball. Oops, sorry for cynicism so early. "Ya gotta believe," especially this year.

As a consolation prize, I was able to purchase tickets for any of the first eight games (after the opener) prior to today's general public sale. Did you get that offer too, John? I got tickets to the April 15th game, plus a friend with season tickets got me some for other games during the year. I'll probably go five or six times. They definitely look like a strong team. A playoff berth is a reasonable goal. Bowa's already talking pennant, but I'll be happy if they just make it to the postseason.

Yup, I got the same offer. I wasn't as interested in those games as others later in the season, so I didn't take advantage of it.

I'm hearing that people are expecting Phillies tickets to be pretty hard to come by this season. I wonder if it's because of the stadium, the fact the team might actually win something or a combo of the two. If it's the combo, bravo to management for bringing it all together this well. Some other teams in the league, like Detroit and Cincinnati, will be envious.

It's all three: better team and plush new stadium have increased demand, and 22,000 fewer seats than the Vet has decreased supply. I think most games will be near-sellouts.

As for giving props to management, it seems to me like they finally took Curt Shilling's very public criticisms a while back to heart and have put some money into the team. Ahhh, Curt. My only regret about this year's team is we let Curt go to Boston instead of coming back to Philly.

Hope I am not poopoing on everyone's breakfast but .........

These are still the same owners that have mis-run this team for years.Only until they needed to add a player that would help sell tickets did they spend any money.

Becareful how much hope you put into this team !

As our wise president said .. " fool me once , um er , er um... fool me twice , dum duh der, won't get fooled again "

I predict that Thome will not last his whole contract , and that there will be a fire sale in 3-4 years

Pitching wins in baseball , and we don't have a sure thing pitcher.
Those kind cost alot
