Default What is the biggest issue for the next pope?

What is the biggest issue you would like/hope to see the next pope address during his papacy?

Feel free to chime in with your thoughts, also, let us know whether or not you are Roman Catholic.

I am a lapsed Roman Catholic, but think that the church would be better served to return to things that distinguished it from other faiths rather than becoming part of the general morass of christian religions. Clean up the mess the priesthood has become, stop relaxing rules to the point they aren't rules anymore, and returning to a more conservative viewpoint.

Another lapsed Catholic here, and i would vote for the choice above. However, for me that "cleanup" would include ordaining women and cracking down on bishops who tolerate rogue priests in their dioceses.

I didn't actually vote, however, since none of the choices captures the above.

Priests should be able to marry. I have never seen in the bible where Jesus tells his disciples that they have to remain celibate or that they cannot marry. Paul was just trying to get men to stay with their wives and to not stray as even back then they knew that this was not good for proper family development.

The priests should be role models for young men in every sense of the word. Not allowing them to marry, have kids and raise a family really diminishes their power as role models. Also, I think if the Catholic faith allowed priests to marry and have children then they could attract more sane, rational and psychologically healthy individuals. Now the priesthood is overrepresented by men with pathological problems who feel that if the take a faith of celibacy they can somehow cure themselves.

But take all this with a grain of salt as I'm a lapsed atheistic catholic, but I still can see the church's biggest weakness from a mile away...

Interesting perspective...

In your mind as someone who identifies yourself as Catholic in some regard, what are the distinctive or "distinguishing" traits of the Catholic tradition to which you would like to see the Catholic Church return?

One common response so far seems to be to reclaim accountability and integrity in some aspects of the priesthood. Did I hear that correctly?
